Wonderfully nostalgiac story...get the right people and turn it into a tv movie...by the way, I saw Charlie Pride in concert in Louisiana in 1975 in a sold out basketball arena. Beloved by the mostly white audience, he made a point of singing directly to every inch of that cavernous hall, and several times he touched the hand of people who came up to the stage. That concert is in my top ten which includes Bob Marley at the Greek Theatre and Jimi Hendrix at the Fillmore. Also hung out at Jack's, one of Daddy Wags' haunts...they had a jukebox to die for. McCovey, Wags, Charlie Pride...these people were gentlemen.

Wagner's one of those guys who, try as you might, you can't find anyone who ever had a bad word to say about him.

But the impression he made as a defender was less positive. Here was the summary report on Wagner in that year’s Dell Sports Baseball annual: “Raw, crude and deficient afield but has such tremendous power that he’s sure to get further examination.” Along ...
