They could trade him to the Red Sox for Lugo and Crisp. That way the Padres would refill the SS position as well as their CF position with the signing of Cameron with the Brewers.

Lugo isn't very good, and Crisp would be a stopgap solution, which the Padres already have in Jim Edmonds.

I didn't say it was a great solution, just a possibility given the fact that Crisp needs to be moved. :-)

Plus Crisp's a lot younger than Edmonds and has great speed and a gold glove possibility who will hit around .280/.330 (BA/OBP).

It was actually off the top of my head. Maybe the Sox would include a deal for minor league SS Jed Lowrie, too.

How Greene is my Shortstop
Published 1/22/2008 by StatsGuru at Baseball Musings
Ducksnorts discusses the problems Khalil Greene poses for the Padres . He doesn't appear to be interested in a long term deal, but not for monetary reasons. Geoff quotes Kevin Towers: With Khalil, it might have nothing to do with the money. It might be family. Greene was born in Pennsylvania but graduated from a high school in Key West, Florida, where he still makes his home. If indeed Greene wants to go east to stay near his family, the logical place would be Miami. Hanley Ramirez will be arbitration eligible next year, and given the way his career is progressing, Hanely might ...

Course of action for the Red Sox: Trade for Khalil Greene

... ) Geoff Young at Ducksnorts tackles The Khalil Conundrum — whether or not to trade Khalil. In it, he says this: For the club to take a loss at shortstop… they would need to make gains elsewhere. Pitching and center field seem to be the logical choices, but good luck finding anyone willing to trade impact players at those positions. Oh really, Geoff? The Padres are always looking for more pitching (especially with their starting pitchers being Greg Maddux, Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Randy Wolf, Mark Prior, Glendon Rusch, Shawn Estes — the latter four all injury question marks). ...
