 The LA Times Reads FanHouse
So last Thursday, TheHype unveiled his Kobe Trade Alert Meter . This ingenious device drew inspiration from this country's Terror Alert Levels , right down to the sequence of colors. We were all quite proud of it, and trotted it out to address the latest one . Then over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times introduced their Kobe Bryant Advisory System , visible on the front page of their ... [link]

I would love to know who cast a negative for this. I thought you people lived for the MSM ripping off blogs. AND IT'S ABOUT A KOBE JOKE, no less. That's the beer equivalent of finding porn in a hamburger, right?

I did, because of what you said about 'you people'.

Personally, I think bloggers are in general a bit too antsy about their 'original' ideas when it comes to plagarism accusation. Not that it's never happened (because in general the MSM thinks the internet is free to them), but it seems too serious a claim to be thrown around as much as it does.

Maybe that attitude is because I rarely do anything original on my blog so I don't worry about theft. ::shrug::

With the MSM, there's two issues:

    1. Not properly attributing/linking/sourcing "finds," which happens all the time. I've gotten mad about this in the past, but these days I really don't care.

    2. Accusations of semi-plagarism. I agree that these are usually wishful thinking on bloggers' parts. However, in this case you've got a pretty distinct concept reproduced more or less verbatim on the LA Times website. If you think that claim doesn't hold water, fine, but address that instead of the general trend it's a part of.

Maybe it's not as original an idea as I'd thought.

Does anyone know when LakersNation put this up?

I'd ask them, and ask the L.A. Times for that matter. They have editors and you have Steve Case.

Obviously there's only one rational answer to why everyone is doing this:

    Kobe's a terrorist.

(That's said in jest, of course.)

Really, guys, there's only one rational answer behind this:

      Kobe's in Al Qaeda.

      (Kidding, clearly).

(What--if the LA Times and Laker Nation can do it, why can't a lowly BallHype commenter?)

... again this year. • Call them Gretzky’s or whatever, but I like the idea of counting a second assist in some cases. If Kobe drives the lane and kicks out to an open Fisher who makes a quick pass around the arc to Radmanovic for a wide open three, shouldn’t Kobe (or whomever) get some credit for starting that play? That said, it’s a judgment call thing to me, there are second assists that are meaningless (both in hockey and basketball). • Is the LA Times borrowing ideas from bloggers?
