The Roundup: Athletes Are Good People, Too!
Published 3/4/2008 by TheBigLead at The Big Lead
Forgot who made the recommendation yesterday, but it was a good call on the hottest “reality show” female we’ve seen in our very limited viewing experiences of reality programming … we nearly went with this photo of Kate Hudson in a thong bathing suit, but decided against it … this shooting at Wendy’s - so sad, but yet another reason never to leave the house because going in pubic is bad for your life expectancy … Where do you people find these photos? … surely it’s only a handful of you who pay attention to these little intros, but how is this dollar/oil situation not worrying anyone? Or perhaps ...
White Runners Cannot Be Taken Seriously

This video via 100% IR has by far the most awkward question and subsequent pause I've ever heard. The clip is from LA's NBC affiliate covering the LA Marathon. Enjoy! I guess that's a good question in theory, but you could have phrased it just a little bit better Mr. Marathon Announcer. Too funny. Marathon Commentator Knows How Kenyans Think
Published 3/4/2008 at The Sporting Blog
By Chris Mottram We've all been there: You say something so incredibly stupid that you instantly wish you could take it back. But, of course, it's past the point of no return. For example, I jokingly called a female friend of mine a "cougar" recently. I meant it as a compliment. Clearly, I'm an idiot. It was a horrible error in judgment. But at least it wasn't racist. Or on television: Yes, Racist Marathon Analyst, all the Kenyans and Ethiopians were just sitting back, snickering while the slow white boy wasted up all his slow white boy energy. Then, they attacked! > Longest Uncomfortable Pause In History ...
"Back To You, Bob. Bob? Bob? You There, Bob?" [Kenyans Are Fast]

From the Los Angeles Marathon this weekend -- and the incomparable 100 Percent Injury Rate -- comes a wonderful moment in broadcasting.
We're not sure how we'd respond either after our field reporter tossed that puppy out there. We probably would have just let it hang too.
Stupid darkie Kenyans, ruining our marathons. As Frank Drebin said, "never bet on the white guy."

Marathon Announcer: Kenyans and Ethiopians Don't Take White Guys Seriously
Published 3/5/2008 by Michael David Smith at FanHouse
Filed under: Los Angeles, Olympics, Track and Field, USADuring Sunday's running of the Los Angeles Marathon, one of the announcers on the KNBC broadcast made a very unfortunate comment that was followed by a very long, awkward, uncomfortable silence: (Video via Fan IQ) The announcer, who was part of the KNBC broadcast team, saw that a white man was in the lead and said, "Well, Ed, is it one of these matters where the Kenyans and Ethiopians they see -- let's be honest here -- they see a white guy out front and they don't take him seriously." I'm not sure whether that comment ...
Kenyan Marathoners Are An Awkward Subject For Broadcasters
Published 3/6/2008 by Anthony Hall at MVN Outsider
So, could this be most uncomfortable moment in TV history? At the very least, it’s gotta be in the top five:
Ten agonizing seconds…that’s how long the period of awkward silence lasted. And I don’t blame the reporter for not responding to that guy’s statement — I mean, what was he gonna say? “You’re absolutely right Frank, no one takes the white guys seriously in marathons. In addition to their inability to jump, white guys are slow as hell, and have absolutely no business participating in long distance running. Back to you!”
Of course, the white guy did end up falling back in the crowd, and ...
