The man, the myth, the mystery: Yu Darvish
Who is Yu Darvish? Maybe the more apt question is who the hell does Yu Darvish think he is? From reading Jeff Passan’s wonderful profile on him over at Yahoo, Darvish seems to be a Japanese hybrid of Michael Jordan, Britney Spears, and Burt Reynolds. The 21-year old Japanese pitcher, who is expected to have a posting fee of at least $75 million (you may remember Dick-K fetched $51 ... [link]

In Japan, The Pitchers Pose Nude [Yu Darvish]
Published 3/25/2008 by Leitch at Deadspin
We don't know how we missed this from Jeff Passan's excellent column on Japanese-Iranian pitcher Yu Darvish, but apparently the fella, in addition to being the Sports Elvis of Japan right now, isn't afraid to take it all off. Yes, in Japan, the 20-year-old pitching phenoms aren't destroyed by Dusty Baker; they're featured nude in national magazines. He stands 6-foot-5, is model skinny and resembles no one else in the stadium, the product of an Iranian father and Japanese mother. He's undeniably good looking, and he knows it, having ...

International Pastime: More of Yu Darvish, Much Much More
Published 3/25/2008 by Josh Alper at FanHouse
... in January and one that we'll continue to visit for months and/or years until Darvish makes his way to a big league mound. Why? As Watson told us yesterday, veterans of the Show that play in Japan rave about his stuff and big league execs drool at the mention of Darvish's name. Turns out, they aren't the only ones drooling. An oversight in an otherwise fine piece, Watson failed to convey a tidbit from Jeff Passan's column that bore mentioning. Thankfully the guys at Tremendous Upside Potential (via Deadspin) are also on a Darvish ...

The Mystery Of Darvish
Yu Darvish, Japanese pitching ace and national celebrity, is the subject of an interesting piece from Yahoo! Sports . Any general manager with a pulse covets Darvish. Last season, most of which he pitched as a 20-year old, he went 15-5 with a 1.82 earned-run average and 12 complete games. His fastball hits 97 mph, his slider 91, and he throws a curveball, changeup and sinker. With Darvish, ...
International Pastime: Waiting for Yu Darvish
International Pastime looks at baseball's influence outside the U.S. Casual fans on this side of the ocean may not be familiar with his name, but believe me when I say big league execs drool at the mention of Yu Darvish , the 22-year-old phenom who took Dice-K 's torch and ran with it to become Japan's best pitcher for the Nippon Ham Fighters. How good is he? Check out this praise found in ...

Yahoo!: Passan: Iconic ace Darvish pushes Japan’s boundaries
A sharp look at Yu Darvish...he’s “Fonzie and Elvis” (I guess that means he punches the jukebox whenever Elvis’ “Yoga Is As Yoga Does” comes on)… “I was born and raised in Japan, so I believe myself 100 percent Japanese,” Darvish says. “My dad is Iranian, but he’s got a lot of Japanese tastes, personality. I was surrounded by Japanese people, so I totally think I’m Japanese.” Throughout the ...
Yanks Interest In Darvish Rumors Continue
Via the Boston Herald - Unfortunately for Major League Baseball fans, unless Nippon Ham deems [Yu] Darvish more valuable by posting him to teams in the United States (as the Seibu Lions did with Matsuzaka), the phenom won’t be eligible to play for a big league team for years. But with rumors floating around that the Yankees would be willing to dwarf the Red Sox’ posting price of $51 ...
