The News-Herald - Tribe can get up-close look at Atkins, Holliday
Consider this current series with the Rockies an up-close scouting report for Eric Wedge and Mark Shapiro. Should the Indians become buyers and not sellers before the July 31 trade deadline, one of the key pieces they could acquire would be Rockies third baseman Garrett Atkins or outfielder Matt Holliday. Like the Indians, the Rockies are one of the biggest disappointments in all of baseball. ... [link]

Odds And Ends: Bradley, Haren, Griffey, Holliday, Atkins
Published 6/18/2008 by Cork Gaines at MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com
A few minor notes from the MLBiverse... Evan Grant wonders if the Rangers might try to trade Milton Bradley if they fall even farther back in the standings and then try to resign him in the off-season when he is a free agent. The D-Backs have begun negotiations with Dan Haren on a contract extension. Haren is signed though '09 with a $6.75MM team option in '10. Ken Griffey Jr says that he wants to win a championship in Cincinnati. With the Rockies playing the Indians, it was inevitable that the Matt Holliday- or Garrett ...

Rumors: Rangers Eyeing CC; Rockies *UPDATED
Published 6/18/2008 by noreply@blogger.com (npc29) at The Tribe Time Report
Of course, two of the favorite names brought up by Indians fans involved with the trade rumors are two Rockie players. And since we are facing the Rockies, of course the discussions will be over Matt Holiday and Garrett Atkins. The News Herald suggests that Aaron Laffey would be the guy the Rockies want, but the Indians just would not do that. "Colorado would undoubtedly ask for Aaron Laffey in any deal, although perhaps would settle for Jeremy Sowers as the key piece to the package." (News Herald) Now, also according to Buster Olney, the Rangers have a very strong eye for C.C. ...

Bringing Back Sidney (and the Ice Cream)
Published 6/19/2008 by Jeff Kallman at The MLB Source
The New York Yankees have decided ice cream was no longer politically incorrect in its clubhouse—thank resurgent Mike Mussina, who won a bet with manager Joe Girardi and got the stuff back in the clubhouse freezers—and neither would Sidney Ponson be, in their organisation. The Empire Emeritus has signed the recently-cashiered Texas Rangers righthander to a minor league deal, and speculation has it that Ponson—who didn’t pitch his way off the Rangers but barked and harrumphed and attitudinised his way off (he was their best starter until a hotel incident and a run-in with manager Ron Washington punched his ...

Rumor mill: Could Atkins and Holliday be gone?
Published 6/20/2008 by Tom Stephenson at Up in the Rockies
The Cleveland News-Herald reported on Wednesday that the Indians could be looking at Garrett Atkins or Matt Holliday at the trade deadline.  Of course, this is hilarious, because the Rockies just swept the Indians, and the Indians are farther out of first place than the Rockies are. But really, could either of these two players be playing somewhere else come August? I’m still not quite ready to give up on the season and request that Charlie Monfort and Dan O’Dowd blow up the team and rebuild, particularly now that the Diamondbacks have cooled off after their hot start.  There are several players on the team who I’d be very comfortable ...
