Mike and the Mad Dog — and Dave Dellucci — are promoting some ridiculous ideal. Players can be exciting when they succeed if, yes, it’s only May and even if, yes, Dellucci’s home run had a bigger impact on the game (which is an obnoxious comment to make in its own right). And if anyone doesn’t think emotion comes into play, just ask Richie Sexson. ...

... a guaranteed 30-35 if he can stay healthy but not much more. This season he is hitting just above the “Mendoza Line” but has 7 home runs already. Sadly, with 301 career home runs and being only 31 years old there is a very good chance that someday Richie Sexson will be in the 500 home run club with guys like Mickey Mantle & Reggie Jackson. If that doesn’t make you just a little sad, nothing will.
