Rival Snags Jones
Published 12/6/2007 by scott at Friar Forum
The LA Dodgers have signed former Atlanta Brave CF Andruw Jones to a 2 year $36 million deal. Jones struggled last year but was oft rumored early in the offseason to be of interest to the Padres if it were on a 1 year deal. The Friars, still looking for a center fielder are left with a list that continues to shorten. It will be interesting to see how the Padres go about acquiring their starting CF for 2008. As a reminder the Padres free agent CF, Mike Cameron will begin the '08 season serving a 25 game suspension for violating the leagues banned substance policy. Cameron has been offered arbitration and has until Friday to ...
News: Andruw Jones to the Dodgers
Published 12/6/2007 by Chris Mazzone at MetsBlog.com
Ken Gurnick at MLB.com is reporting that OF Andruw Jones and the Los Angeles Dodgers have reached a 2-year deal $36 million deal.
…there were rumors of the dodgers being interested, but most expected jones to try and seek out a better deal, or at least wait until Aaron Rowand had signed. the dodgers lost out on cabrera, but jones isn’t a terrible backup plan as at his worst he’s still a run producer who’s great defensively. certainly doesn’t hurt that they didn’t have to part with prospects to get him. it was a foregone conclusion that he wasn’t returning to the braves, but it’s nice that it’s ...
News: Dodgers Sign Andruw Jones
Published 12/6/2007 by D.J. Short at MetsBlog.com
Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports, citing ‘a baseball official,’ that the Dodgers have signed free-agent OF Andruw Jones to a two-year, $36 million contract.
Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times confirms the story.
Hernandez writes that Jones’ agent Scott Boras sent an email message to teams on Wednesday that his client would be willing to entertain offers for a shorter contract than they were initially seeking.
Jones was believed to be looking for a contract similar to the five-year, $90 million contract that Torii Hunter signed with the Angels.
…man, imagine if Jones ...
MLB: Dodgers, Andruw Jones reach agreement

MLB: Dodgers, Andruw Jones reach agreement The Dodgers landed the bat they’ve been seeking, reaching agreement on Wednesday night with free-agent outfielder Andruw Jones on a two-year, $36 million contract, according to a baseball official. The deal is contingent on Jones passing a physical exam. ...
Andruw Jones is an LA Dodger
Published 12/6/2007 by Aaron Jay Sapiro at Rockin' the Ravine
Done deal.
Andurw Jones is an LA Dodger.
Two years. 36 Million Dollars for the 10 time Gold Glover and Five Time All Star.
That includes the $12 Million signing bonus.
Initial reaction is psyched. It was my first Dodger smile since Joe Torre.
I’m excited, and I’m trying to convince myself that he played injured last year, because, you know, he played injured last year. Right?
Last year was tough: A .222 BA, only a .311 OBP. But hey, he had 26 Jacks and 94 RBIs, both good enough for tops on the Dodgers. He played in 154 games, and he’s nasty with the glove.
A little nervous.
But, it’s like an excited ...
Aaron Rowand Seen Running Towards Los Angeles, the Land of Opportunity for Centerfielders
Published 12/6/2007 by Shyster at ShysterBall
By last count, there were two baseball teams in the Greater Los Angeles area. Now that Andruw Jones has signed a 2-year, $36 million deal with the Dodgers, those two teams have handed out four large contracts to big name free agent centerfielders in the past 380 days. By the way, if you had held a gun to my head 381 days ago and asked me to name which of those four centerfielders would get the shortest, least lucrative deal, my answer would not have been Andruw Jones. You? Not that it was a bad move by either Los Angeles team to sign the guy they did in 2007. The key to whether the Dodgers and Angels are smart, however, lies in what they do with their mistake signings from ...
LAst Night's Action: Lakers/Ducks Win, Clippers/Kings Lose, World is Right
Published 12/6/2007 by Adam Rose at LAist
Lakers 111, Nuggets 107 - Allen Iverson lit up the scoreboard with 51 points but three Lakers responded with big nights of their own. Kobe Bryant scored 25, Vladimir Radmanovic added 21, and Derek Fisher had 20. Despite his big night, the Lakers only allowed Iverson one layup in the fourth quarter.
Sonics 95, Clippers 88 - Seven is unlucky for the Clipper -- it's how many games they've lost in a row. Seattle led by as many as 17 and Los Angeles never really threatened.
Ducks 4, Sabres 1 - Anaheim has been struggling -- by their standard -- but blew Buffalo off the ice after falling behind early in the first ...

Thursday, December 06, 2007 (12/06/2007 06:59:00 AM) - Al Quick hits: Tad Iguchi continues to get mentioned by teams looking for a 2B or 3B, but he is said to be hoping for a contract similar to Kaz Matsui, 3y/$16.5M. There's something to be said here about having to pay as much as the stupidest owner, but who has that kind of time. Andrew Jones has supposedly signed with the Dodgers , just 2 years though. They might be looking to package some young talent for a SP now. ...
daze of our lives

i guess it's official, if it wasn't already: the cards have become the yankees. they're as much about ego and personality now as about baseball; what the participants say about each other off the field generates at least as much interest as what they do on the field. i'm referring, of course, to la russa's blunt remarks about rolen, capsulized in this diary ...
JUAN PIERRE - $9M/YR 4TH OUTFIELDER???
Published 12/6/2007 by AE at SPORTS UNFILTERED
With the Dodgers signing Andruw Jones to a ridiculous contract , what happens to Juan Pierre? Unless the Dodgers trade either Matt Kemp or Andre Ethier and as much as it pains me to say it, it makes no sense to play Pierre on an everyday basis. In terms of WARP, Ethier and Kemp are at least 3 wins superior to Pierre and 3 wins is a big difference maker in making the playoffs or not for a competitive team... So, will the Dodgers let Pierre ride the pine as a 4th outfielder with $35M left on his contract for the next 4 years? I highly doubt it. The Dodgers must have some trade ...
Dodgers Sign Andruw Jones To 2-Year, $36.2M Deal
Published 12/6/2007 by Rob at 6-4-2 — an Angels/Dodgers double play blog
Ken Rosenthal and the Times and dodgers.com all report the Dodgers have signed centerfielder Andruw Jones to a two-year, $36.2M deal. From Dylan Hernandez's LAT story:
At the start of the off-season, Jones' agent, Scott Boras, signaled he expected Jones could get a five-year contract worth $100 million.
But no team appeared to come close to such an offer, amid concerns over a .222 batting average that was 41 points below his career average and questions about his long-term conditioning. The two-year deal provides Jones the chance to re-establish his value and re-enter the free-agent market at age 32. Jones is believed to like the idea of ...
Jones, Riske, and Guillen
Published 12/6/2007 by Lee Warren at Royal Reflections
Lots of things to talk about today: Andruw Jones signed a two-year, $36 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Sounds like Jones preferred to stay in the National League. And former teammate, and current Dodger, Rafael Furcal, made "more than one" phone call to Jones attempting to get him to sign with the Dodgers. So, we'll see if Moore pursues another bat. I'm sure that Mike Sweeney could be had for a relatively cheap price and this may open the door for more discussion between Sweeney and Moore. I'd love to see it happen. Mark Teahen could stay in right field. Ross Gload could play first base. Billy Butler could play DH. And Sweeney could fill ...
