Believe it or not, the Mets get playoff shares
Published 11/26/2007 by Cameron Martin at Bugs & Cranks
I don’t know what’s more astounding - that regulars on the Red Sox earned an additional $308,000 for winning the World Series, or that the New York Mets, they of the colossally shat bed, were actually awarded $9,411 per player for finishing second. That should cover a few trips to the psychiatrist. Because Major League Baseball shares it profits from the post-season with the second-place, non-wild card clubs, the Mets, Brewers, Tigers and Mariners actually earn bonuses for the 2007 post-season. Is this really necessary? First of all, awarding 9 K to a Mets player this year is like my grandfather flipping me a dime and telling me not to spend it all in one place…after I took his Caddy out and wrapped it around ...
Postseason pays for Red Sox and Mets -- yes, Mets

Major League Baseball has released a few details on this year's playoff money : - If you're one of the 47 people awarded a full share of the pool by the Boston Red Sox, you just won $308,235.75. - The Colorado Rockies full-share crew will get $233,505.18 each. That includes a full share for Mandy Coolbaugh, whose husband, Mike, was killed by a line drive while he was in the first-base coach's box for the Rockies' Tulsa affiliate. His death prompted coaches to wear helmets . - Second-place finishers get postseason money even if they don't claim a wild-card spot. That explains why 41 people in the Mets organization will get $9,411.28 each. (Hat tip: Bugs and Cranks )
