PITTSBURGH -- General manager Neal Huntington continues to tweak the 40-man roster, with his latest move coming on Tuesday, when he announced that the Pirates had added right-handed starter Luis Munoz. Munoz is coming off a strong season during which he proved to be one of the organization's biggest bragging points. Among full-season pitchers in the Pirates' farm system last year, Munoz led ... News Roundup: Armas, Chacon File for Free Agency

-P- B.P. is "in the process of" declaring free agency today. Tony Armas has already done so. Neither of these are a surprise. If you want to see B.P. now, you'll have to go to the game early. -P- Also, the Bucs added Luis Munoz to the 40-man roster and designated Josh Shortslef for assignment. Munoz had a decent year as a starter in Altoona. He's not a groundball pitcher - despite throwing a sinker - and he didn't strike out many batters this year, so he's going to have to keep improving to be effective in the majors, but he's still more interesting than Shortslef, who's the same age as Munoz and posted an ERA a run higher at Altoona. ...

Shawn Chacon is filing for free agency. Apparently he'd like to come back to Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, I would like the Pirates to be good. I don't think either of us will get what we want, but if he does, I almost certainly will not. Fun aside for everyone that misses Josh Fogg: aside from win/loss record (which is terribly arbitrary), Chacon's career numbers are pretty similar to Fogg's. And he's younger!Tony Armas is gone. Our nightmare is over.Someone named Luis Munoz just got put on the 40-man. According to WTM's profile, he used to go by an alias. That's pretty cool, if you ask me.Ugh, all of that reading at the dot-com gave me a headache. I wish the ...

Is Dave Dombrowski Playing 'Hard to Get' with Free Agents?
Published 11/1/2007 by Ian Casselberry <info@blessyouboys.com> at Bless You Boys: Front Page Posts
After acquiring Edgar Renteria, Dave Dombrowski seems eager to dampen expectations for a free agent fun-for-all in Detroit.   First, the Tigers' courtship of outfielder Geoff Jenkins is allegedly ending before it even really started.  With Renteria now in the lineup, a Marcus Thames-Timo Perez-Ryan Raburn trio evidently might be good enough, as far as Detroit's braintrust is concerned. And then, Dombrowski frames Curt Schilling into an either-or scenario, as in either they'll sign Kenny Rogers or pursue an alternative like Schilling.  Call me greedy or unrealistic, but I think there's room for both on the Tigers' pitching staff.    Maybe one ...
