Conine To Retire With Marlins
Published 3/17/2008 by Patrick Dorsey at The Transaction Guy
Marlins.com reports that Jeff Conine will sign a one-day deal with Florida to retire a Marlin. This is certainly fitting, as the glory days of Conine’s career came with the club, including two World Series titles in 1997 and 2003, making him a fan favorite even to this day. The forty-one year old also ranks high up in many hitting categories in Marlin history, such as hits and RBIs. Although his number will not be retired, he’ll be honored on Opening Day before the team faces the Mets. Coninie is retiring after a season in which he played for the Reds, and then was traded to the Mets in August. It’s good to see him retiring in Florida, where he belongs after a pretty darn ...
