KANSAS CITY -- Alex Gordon catapulted through the Minor Leagues. After winning the Golden Spikes Award as college baseball's best player in 2005, the Nebraska third baseman was picked second by the Royals in the draft and quickly made an impact in the system. ... I hate to admit it, but I'm infatuated by the Kansas City Royals. Blame it on Omaha. I was there last weekend visiting the in-laws for Easter and my brother-in-law Dennis and his precocious 6-year-old Logan were nearly foaming at the mouth with KC Fever. Easy to see why when you realize Omaha is home to the Triple A club for KC and that the Royals' shiny new rookie, Alex Gordon, is a former Nebraska baseball star.
