The Kansas City Royals essentially cut one live arm in order to bring in another on Wednesday, designating lefthander Jorge De La Rosa for assignment and acquiring righthander Ramon Ramirez from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later.
De La Rosa, 26, tossed 130 innings for the Royals in 2007, whiffing 82 and issuing 53 free passes to go along with a 5.82 ERA.
Ramirez, also 26, posted an 8.31 ERA and a 15/6 K/BB in 17.1 IP for Colorado, but faired better at AAA Colorado Springs, striking out 35 and walking 16 with a 2.28 ERA in 27.2 IP.
