The Official Site of The Los Angeles Dodgers: News: LaRoche is sent to Minors
DENVER -- The answer to what happens to Andy LaRoche when he's healthy came Saturday night. He was officially sent to the Minor Leagues. LaRoche, 24, who seemed to have the inside track at the starting third base job when Spring Training started, suffered a torn thumb ligament in a freak injury March 7, underwent surgery and has been on a Minor League injury rehabilitation assignment for ... Dodgers Win Eighth Straight Behind Loney’s Six RBI
Published 5/4/2008 by Nathaniel Edelstein at Rockin' the Ravine
Another great game tonight, but first my best wishes go out to Tommy Lasorda. Apparently Lasorda cut short his trip to the Dominican Republic because of a minor ailment and spent two days in the hospital. They say he is home and okay. We hope you’re feeling better, Tommy. Well, it was definitely another exciting game in Colorado. Luckily, it was a lot warmer than the first game of the series. The Dodgers took an early 6-0 lead, which Esteban Loaiza just about wasted, giving up five runs in 2 1/3 innings of work. The sixth run was credited to Hong-Chih Kuo, but except for the homerun he allowed in his first pitch to Brad Hawpe, he was very good in his 3 2/3 innings. Besides ...

God Dammit

... Andy LaRoche has been optioned to AAA , meaning that we're now choosing to start Blake Dewitt or Russell Martin at 3rd, instead of just waiting for LaRoche to rehab. Apparently we just couldn't lose DeWitt's almost average performance at the hot corner. Update>>Joe Torre confirms that, yes, that pretty much is the reason. "The guys we have now are playing well," manager Joe Torre said. "DeWitt has done a nice job. It's best for LaRoche to play more baseball and get it going a little and play every day." ...

Andy LaRoche Sent to Minors
Published 5/4/2008 by Old Navy King at MLB Fleece Factor
According to Ken Gurnick at MLB.com, Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Andy LaRoche was officially sent back down to the minors on Saturday night. LaRoche, 24, was expected to compete for, and possibly win, the team’s 3B job in Spring Training. But in early March, he suffered a torn ligament in his thumb that required surgery. He just finally finished his minor-league rehab assignment, and is now fully healthy again. With LaRoche injured during the spring, Nomar Garciaparra and Tony Abreu were expected to fill-in at third base, but both of them became injured as well. That all led to 22-year old Blake DeWitt playing at the hot corner, and playing well. That has lead to the ...

Dodgers Begin 6-Game Homestand Monday
Published 5/5/2008 by Megan Westenberg at Dem Bums - A Dodgers Blog
The Dodgers will host the Mets on Monday at 7:10 to open a six game homestand, followed by the Astros for the weekend. The Dodgers went 5-5 with the Mets last year, going 4-3 at home. Chad Billingsley will go for his second win of the season after coming off his first win with seven strong innings in his last outing on Wednesday. He will face Nelson Figueroa, who is 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA. In other news, Andy LaRoche was designated to Triple-A Las Vegas ...

Loney hits 'em a mile high

When did James Loney start thinking about making a run at his record-setting nine-RBI outburst at Coors Field? Was it when he doubled in three runs in the first inning Saturday night? Was it when he added a three-run homer in the fifth inning? Or when he came up with the bases loaded in the eighth inning? "When I got here in Colorado," said Loney, who settled for six RBIs as the Dodgers, ...
