Closing Time: Slowey drives 'Little Red Corvette' through Brewers, Prince shrieks in jubilation
Roto Arcade —
This afternoon in Minneapolis, Kevin Slowey dunked on Milwaukee hitters as though he were Gopher State native Prince and the Brewers a group of awestruck Charlie Murphys. In the air-conditioned comforts of the Metrodome, the crafty 24-year-old hurled a three-hit complete game shutout, the first of his career. Slowey whiffed a season-high eight batters, and, get this, walked none. More performances like that and Nick Blackburn (pictured right) won't be the only person willing to express affections for Slowey. Including today's spectacular effort, the Twinkies righty has racked three wins and compiled a microscopic 0.93 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in his past 29 innings. ...
Another Shutout, but Dodgers Lose This One
Dem Bums - A Dodgers Blog —
Derek Lowe continued to lack run support and pitched a gem but still took the loss as the Dodgers lose 1-0 and fail to take the series sweep. They did seal the series win though, just their second series win in the past 11. Angels’ starter John Lackey threw like an ace, allowing just three Dodger hits while striking out nine. The Dodgers loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth but the MLB leader in saves, K-Rod, got Loney to ground out to end the threat. Juan Pierre had one of the hits in the sixth but was pulled when he injured his knee while sliding into second on a steal. He will undergo an MRI and may be headed to the DL for the first time in his career. If so, the Dodgers would likely have to ...
I Am Never Taking A Vacation Again
Mike Scioscia's tragic illness —
So I’m gone for all of four days. Unlike most other trips I’ve been on in the past, I’m completely cut off this time - no TV, no internet (save for what I can glean from my phone), no newspapers. But hey, what could happen, right? The Dodgers are going to play the Angels, and they’ll lose - because they always do when they play Anaheim - and I’ll come back not ...
Various Ramirez-related weekend notes ...
Roto Arcade —
I'm almost afraid to write anything today, because I don't want that fantastic Billy Butler image to disappear from the main fantasy page. Just look at him. Such zeal. Such glee. Such abundant neck. If there were a caption-this-photo contest, my entry would be "Mmm! Tapioca!" We're going to begin with one of those catch-all, heavily-bulleted posts today, just to ensure that Butler continues to lead the site... • Aramis Ramirez will miss the Cubs' next three games "to tend to family matters back home in the Dominican Republic," according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He apparently asked for four ...
Closing Time: They're all just...gone
Roto Arcade —
Here's the short version, for those of you who can't stick around until the end: Everyone is hurt. Everyone. And if they're not hurt, they soon will be. Or they're attending to Family Matters family matters. Tonight, we're all injuries, all the time. These are the details... • Rays' closer Troy Percival apparently re-re-injured his achy hamstring. Dan Wheeler is (again) the appropriate add, though we don't yet know the severity of Percival's issue. Here's some detail from the AP's game recap: Percival limped off the mound after appearing to tweak a sore hamstring backing ...
