The Mets start their Spring Training 2008 exhibition schedule Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers. Baseball is getting started again. Forget Ground Hogs day. This game means spring is just about here. When Pelfrey takes the mound and sees his shadow tomorrow, a new season has begun. Sadly, it will also mean there are only 214 days left until the last official game at Shea Stadium. But lets not go there just now. JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Tuesday his pitchers would bat eighth in spring training games in which the designated hitter is not used. La Russa then plans to continue the practice once the regular season starts. "We'll hit the pitcher eighth," he said. "We're going to have a second leadoff as the ninth-place hitter."
