 Sosa may get rotation shot
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Jorge Sosa temporarily became an effective solution for a rotation problem the Mets developed in May. For five weeks, the castaway right-handed pitcher provided consistent performances, not to mention six victories in seven starts. Now, with the Mets less than a week from the beginning of their regular season, a similar problem exists. And the club is looking in the ... [link]

Gotay might be released
Published 3/26/2008 by Ed Ryan at Mets Fever
Marty Noble in his latest column reports that the Mets might give Ruben Gotay his outright release. This surprises me because you would think that the Mets would at least attempt to retain him in the minor league system by hoping that he makes it through waivers. The second surprise is that Noble mentioned Tatis' chances of making the team as improved. Once the team announced that they would start the year with five starters, based on performances I assumed that Brady Clark and Angel Pagan would take the last two spots. But if Tatis makes the team it would cost one of the outfielders a spot, either could go, Clark signed a minor league deal and Pagan has options. If Tatis was to make the ...

Noble writes: “Jorge Sosa temporarily became an effective solution for a rotation problem the Mets developed in May. Now, with the Mets less than a week from the beginning of their regular season, a similar problem exists. Who will be the fifth starter
Published 3/26/2008 by Ed Ryan at Mets Fever
With both Orlando Hernandez and Mike Pelfrey having sub-par springs, it leaves the Mets with a dilemma over who to put in the fifth starters spot. Hernandez simply won't be ready to start the season and once he is, who knows how long he will last or how effective he will be. I have heard quite a few arguments about what to do with Pelfrey; ranging from send him out as the fifth starter to sink or swim, to no way you can reward him for not preforming, send him down. My concern about Pelfrey is his make up, it appears every time he's close to success he implodes and the minute the pressures off he teases us with great stuff. Tony Armas Jr. was suppose to be the back-up plan but Visa problems ...

Cerebral Blockage

A-Rod wants to be a Met... Old news. I mean, who doesn't want to be a Met? However, when A-Rod says things like this, it makes me want to throw a live badger at this head and watch the hilarity that ensues. Great, {sniff, sniff} A-Rod's all grown up and mature. He chased the money and did not want to make the same mistake again by leaving the Yankees....except he signed the type of contract that usually accompanied by 'US Government' and 'Lockheed Martin' in the same sentence. Of course, A-Rod is still the best player on the field and there may be a shred of sour grapes in what I am saying. It would be impossible for me to not think about the 'what ifs' and what would it have been ...

iPhones and Jorge Sosa

Good news: I just ordered an iPhone. After years of suffering with Verizon's awful phone selection I finally decided to jump ship. I'm still using the Motorola Q that I bought a couple of years ago, and am bewildered that Verizon hasn't come up with anything better in the interim. The other smartphones they have released are all too thick; the Q is less than a half-inch deep, which ...

Note: Who is the Fifth Starter?
Published 3/26/2008 by Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog.com
According to SI.com’s Jon Heyman, speaking to WFAN yesterday, Mets management may meet today to discuss who will be the team’s fifth starter. Meanwhile, the Brewers released RHP Claudio Vargas yesterday, according the the Journal Sentinel. In a post to his blog for the New York Post, Joel Sherman says he would not be surprised to see the Mets try and sign Vargas. Also in the New York Post, Bart Hubbach quotes Minaya as saying he will take a close look at Vargas, who is a ‘good name.’ Vargas, 29, was 11-6 with a 5.09 ERA in 29 games for the Brewers last season, during which he started 23 games. ...

Buzz: Is Gotay on Waivers or Not?
Published 3/26/2008 by Matthew Cerrone at MetsBlog.com
…so, because i am confused, i talked with some one who would know, and it appears that Ruben Gotay has yet to be put on waivers, which is not to say he won’t be…it’s just that, as of right now, he has not been put on waivers… By the way, yesterday I wrote that WFAN’s Ed Coleman had said Gotay was on waivers.  In review, it instead sounds like Coleman said: “I still put a question mark on Gotay, though he’s out of waivers.” …like others, i thought i heard coleman say gotay is on waivers, but instead he said he is out of ...

Sosa To Get Shot In Rotation?
Published 3/26/2008 by Rob Harding at Hot Foot
In an article for Mets.com, beat writer Marty Noble explains how the Mets could give Jorge Sosa a shot in the rotation until either El Duque regains his form with the new leg kick or Mike Pelfrey realizes how good he can be if he harnesses his control. I wouldnt mind having Sosa has a stopgap for a few weeks to give El Duque some more time to experiment with his new leg kick. Although, having Sosa in the rotation would be a hit to our bullpen for the time being… Share This

Fernando Tatis?
Published 3/27/2008 by NYteamsWin at Mets Prospects Minors Blog | MetsProspectus.com
Well there are major signs after Gotay being put on waivers that Fernando Tatis may be the 25th man on the Met's roster. Here are what some Met's blogs are saying. Metsblog "what we can logically assume here is that Fernando Tatis is now the leading candidate to round out the bench, meaning gotay has to hit waivers" Mets Prospectus "Fernando Tatis fills every single one of these needs. The Mets don't need another fast guy on the bench because they'll already have Pagan and Chavez. This time last week I thought Brady Clark had the spot locked up, but as of now I have to think Tatis is in the ...
