BRADENTON, Fla. -- After a wave of roster moves and decisions on Wednesday, the Pirates' hazy bullpen picture moved a few steps closer to clarity. Knowing that they had to essentially make a decision on Byung-Hyun Kim's future by Wednesday afternoon, the Pirates gave him word that they would trigger the release clause in his contract and unconditionally release the 29-year-old right-hander.  ... Pirates acquire RP Yates from Braves; cut Kim

The Pittsburgh Pirates added another live arm to an unsettled bullpen situation, acquiring righthander Tyler Yates from the Atlanta Braves for righthanded pitching prospect Todd Redmond. The Bucs also parted ways with righthander Byung-Hyun Kim. The 29 year-old was torched this spring, serving up 5 home runs and posting a 14.40 ERA in 5 innings pitched. Yates, 30, posted a 5.23 ERA and a 68/30 K/BB in 65.1 IP for the Braves in 2007. The 6-4, 230 pounder was originally drafted by the Oakland A’s and was shipped to the New York Mets as part of a trade that sent David Justice to Oakland in 2001. Redmond, 22, spent the majority of the ‘07 season at High-A ...
