An update to the Colorado Rockies' interest in Anthony Reyes - Rockies owner Dick Monfort is not in a hurry to acquire another starter for the rotation, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post: Despite the team's poor start, he said the Rockies have no plans to acquire a frontline starting pitcher or even a fifth starter such as Cincinnati's Josh Fogg. The Padres front office had hoped that Edmonds would be a stop gap in center field for the 2008 season, so much so they agreed to take on his $6M salary, which they must now eat. Jim Edmonds’ outstanding career may have reached its nadir. The 8-time Gold Glove winner and 4-time all-star was released by the San Diego Padres on Friday.
Edmonds, 37, was acquired in the offseason from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for third base prospect David Freese. Edmonds began the 2008 season on the DL with a calf injury and has struggled to the tune of .184/.270/.241 in 101 PA in 2008.
