Chris Haft at MLB.com reports the Giants have designated lefty reliever Steve Kline for assignment. Adds Haft, "Dropping Kline... was not completely unexpected. Kline, 35, is
coming off his worst season since his rookie year of 1997, having
posted a 4.70 ERA and more walks than strikeouts last year. He also
allowed left-handed batters to hit .318 ...

Sanfranciscogiants.com reports that the Giants have designated veteran reliever Steve Kline for assignment.
The team was trying to trade the left-hander after he was having a bad spring, looking like he didn’t improve at all from last season in which he had an ERA of 4.70. He doesn’t strike out enough hitters, and can’t be considered a lefty specialist at all after struggling against them. San Francisco will look to trade him, hoping that a team desperate for bullpen help pops up.
Also, the club has sent veteran catcher Eliezer Alfonzo to AAA. This leaves them with just Steve Holm, who’s never played above AA, as the team’s back-up catcher. ...

Some odds and ends on this Christmas Eve-like day:
Steve Kline was designated for assignment.
The Phils were rumored to be trading for him, but it fell through. Now he could be swept up easier. I don’t really love the idea of him, though.
Aaron Fultz was signed by the Tigers.
A quick summation of that move: The Tigers needed bullpen help. They got a guy who will get lefties out in the 6th inning. See that, Phils?
Prince Fielder has been offered a multi-year deal by the Brewers.
