Jays sign Rios, Hill to long-term contracts
Published 4/4/2008 by Alex Obal at Batter's Box Interactive Magazine
Big news, in case the home opener wasn't exciting enough on its own: the Blue Jays just announced that they have signed Alex Rios and Aaron Hill to contract extensions. Rios will be a Blue Jay through 2014. Hill's signing was a surprising twist. His contract takes him through 2011, and also contains three club options that could keep Hill in Toronto until 2014 as well.
Here's the bluejays.com story on the extensions. - Alex Rios: six years, $64 million. - Aaron Hill: four years, $12 million, with three club options in addition. If the terms of Hill's options have been disclosed, I can't find them. Apparently, there are no ...
Pregame Festivities: Rios and Hill Sign, Alomar Ascends, Jays Get the Blues

His new deal is for four years, $12m, plus a rare three option years in 2012, 2013 and 2014 (Club options, ...

The Toronto Blue Jays locked up two of their best young players on Friday, reaching long-term contract extensions with outfielder Alex Rios and second baseman Aaron Hill.
Rios, 27, signed a 6-year, $64M extension that takes effect in 2009. Rios had two years of arbitration eligibility left, so the deal buys out four years of free agency. The contract includes a $13.5M club option with a $1M buyout for the 2015 season. Rios, Toronto’s first round pick in the 1999 Amateur Draft, hit .297/.354/.498 with 24 home runs during the 2007 season.
Hill, 26, inked a 4-year, $12M deal that includes club options for the 2012-2014 seasons that could increase the total value of the ...
