 Hill dominates in batting practice
VIERA, Fla. -- Nationals right-hander Shawn Hill threw his second batting practice on Tuesday, and he was dominating despite experiencing right forearm soreness, the same injury that bothered him last spring. Hill had a blazing fastball and broke several bats during the session. Outfielder Alex Escobar was the only hitter who was able to manage a base hit. As usual, Hill was hard on himself ... [link]

Panic button recall, recalled.

On second thought, you can never be too prepared... It's never too early to break out the Panic Button. Just when we were starting to feel better about Hill...thanks, Bill. Nats Journal: "Hill reported nothing other than what he now considers normal soreness. The only ball that appeared to be a "hit" against him was on his last pitch, which Milledge grounded up the middle." Times Chatter: "No, the guys facing Hill today were Lastings Milledge, Wily Mo Pena and Elijah Dukes. None of them made solid contact, unless you consider a broken bat blooper to center by Milledge solid contact. "All right, we went 1-for-11!" Milledge exclaimed at the end of the round." Nats320: "Swing after swing, stroke after stroke--not much serious contact by Washington's Top Sluggers. Escobar on finally lofting a meager pop just to the outfield grass--raises his arms in Triumph!! "I ...

Newark Star-Ledger baseball writer Jeremy Cothran had a feature article on the front page of the Sports section today on former Nationals' catcher Brian Schneider entitled, "Catching up in a hurry", which examines how the New York Mets' new catcher is adjusting to a pitching staff that he's only known as opponents until earlier this winter when Schneider was traded, along with outfielder Ryan Church, to the Mets for their former top prospect, outfielder Lastings Milledge. Pedro Martinez is one of the Mets' pitchers quoted in the article, and he quickly endears himself to catchers everywhere, telling Mr. Cothran that as far as he's concerned: "It's a matter of him(Schneider) understanding what my ...
