The Official Site of The Washington Nationals: News: O'Connor replaces Chico in rotation
HOUSTON -- The Nationals are making a change in their starting rotation, naming left-hander Mike O'Connor to start Saturday night's home game against Florida in place of lefty Matt Chico. > Chico will move to the bullpen. "It's not a tryout, one-game type of thing," manager Manny Acta said. "We want to relieve Matt from some of the tension he's having. And we want to give O'Connor a shot. ... [link]

Game Thread: Washington Nationals at Houston Astros- 2008 Game 34 of 162.

... According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson's article, "O'Connor replaces Chico in rotation", the Nationals have decided to swap Matt Chico and Mike O'Connor, with O'Connor taking over the starting role the struggling Chico has failed to hold onto, and Chico moving to the bullpen where he, like O'Connor had been, will be the only left-handed reliever on the roster. (ed. note - "?"). Mr. Ladson quotes Nationals' Manager Manny Acta, who states: ...

It's about effing time.

There is a God: Mike O'Connor replaces MAAtt Chico in the rotation. But where's Bergmann?? Bullpen makes no sense for Chico. Next logical, almost too obvious move if you ask us (you didn't ask, but we'll pretend you did), is to put Chico on the bus to Columbus and bring back AAA Star Jason Bergmann (for long relief, until O'Connor doesn't work out). So why no announcement of a Bergmann move yet? In no other organization in baseball would Matt Chico have even gotten a sniff of the majors at this point. Give him the rest of the year to get his sh*t together (and by sh*t we mean his leg kick and his head, ...

Nats lose and actual news.
Published 5/8/2008 by Harper Gordek at Oleanders and Morning Glories
Odalis Perez pitches another decent game. Ryan Zimmerman hits two home runs. Yet the Nats lose again. You’ve got to admire their persistence. They’ll find a way. Of course the Nats losing, that’s not news, but we’ve got some of that, too. O’Connor to the rotation…Chico to the bullpen?..O’Connor to the bullpen?! The Nats have decided to take a break on the Chico, but rather than sending him down to Columbus which, you know, would have made some sense, they’ve decided to move him to the bullpen. If they are serious about this move you’ve taken someone who last year was a 24 yr old, just below ...

The Sabermetric Soapbox: A day with some legends

Former ballplayers telling tales is a fantastic break from the usual musings from atop the Soapbox. Who were the Denver Bears? A few months back I found myself asking that question. Since I was still 9 when the Rockies first took the field for Major League Baseball games, the extent of my knowledge on the subject went as far as being aware there was a AAA team in Denver prior to the new ...

Acta on the rotation switch

First of all, I had it a bit off. Tim Redding will start on Friday night against Florida, and Mike O'Connor on Saturday. With Monday's off day, that just keeps Redding on his regular turn. The guy's been the team's best starter, might as well pitch ...
