Last week Donte Stallworth, still currently a member Cleveland Browns, pled guilty to the alcohol-related vehicular death of a Miami area man in the early hours of the morning. As punishment, a Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge sentenced Stallworth to thirty (30) days in jail, several fines and a slew of other measures, including the permanent revocation of his license. In defense to the Circuit Court Judge’s light sentence, the victim's family had urged him to quickly settle the matter and Stallworth had been extremely cooperative with police investigators since the incident occurred on March 13, 2009. An undisclosed financial settlement between Stallworth and the victim's family also contributed to the wide receiver's expeditious sentencing. ...
Peppers Signs Franchise Tender
The Biz of Football :: Part of the Business of Sports Network —
NFL.com is reporting that Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers signed a one-year, $16.7 million franchise tender Wednesday, five months after the four-time Pro Bowler requested a trade. Peppers, who is the team’s all-time sacks leader, should be present for the start of training camp in August. Following the Panthers January playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Peppers insisted that he would never sign a long-term contract with the Panthers and pleaded for them to not place the restrictive franchise tag on him, which the team did anyway. The Panthers had to give Peppers a contract that would pay him more than $1 million per game, but any team interested in signing him would need ...
David Kahn and the T'Wolves Play High-Stakes Poker By Opening with a Pair of Point Guards

The NBA Draft is normally all about the players – who’s going to be the big star, and difference maker for a franchise’s roster. Beyond Blake Griffin at No.1, and possibly Hasheem Thabeet for Memphis at No. 2 impact players were thin this year. The draft was none the less compelling last night if for no reason than to watch what David Kahn and the Minnesota Timberwolves were up to. For the past week, Kahn, had been working deals in an attempt to move up the Draft board, by first sending Mike Miller and Randy Foye to the Wizards for the No. 5 pick and reserves Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila and Oleksiy Pecherov. From there, they looked to package picks and possibly a player to try and get Memphis’ No. 2 pick where Thabeet would ...

Rays Out slug World Champion Phillies for Series win
tbsportsblog.com 6/26/2009 —
I've never been one for moral victories. You either win or you lose. A rematch of teams that met in a championship setting the previous season does not constitute a "revenge game" or series. The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2008 World Series - they have the rings. ...
Preview Game 69: Phillies @ Rays
macho-row.blogspot.com 6/24/2009 — After shelling the Rays for ten runs last night, the offense probably can not wait to get back at it again tonight. Let the Attendance Debate Begin
raysallday.com 6/24/2009 — World Series rematch. Rays vs. Phillies. I guess the expectation was that this series should be a sellout. Perhaps. But, Rays management definitely thought so.

raysindex.com 6/25/2009 — Last night was only the 8th World Series rematch since the introduction of interleague play. But a look at the stands and one would have thought it was just another mid-week matchup with an AL Central foe. 19,608 was the paid attendance and Matt ...
