Sometimes BP’s snarky writers are a little off on their assessments. “The upper levels of the organization are still pretty thin in terms of prospects, so Holliday still gets mentioned. Outfield corners who can’t slug .400 should get to be non-prospects pretty quickly, but a nice AFL gave people a continuing excuse to call Holliday a talent.

Seamheads: DiFilippo: The Worst of Baseball Prospectus

Seamheads: DiFilippo: The Worst of Baseball Prospectus BPro has struck out on three of their last five annuals! ... They haven’t hit the ball out of the infield!… They had a terrible spring training!… TAKE THEM OUT OF THE GAME!...Steamedpunk ramblings from DiFilippo. Jim Baker, the author, wrote about how Brantley made a point of talking about how Edwin Encarnacion is “not clutch.” Encarnacion, of course, followed with a three-run homer to win the game. Baker proposed calling this kind of thing, “Pulling a Brantley.” Wrote Baker, “We’ve all written or said things that very ...

Knuckle Curve —
Matt DiFilippo at Seamheads.com re-examines some statements (h/t Baseball Think Factory) made by the writers of Baseball Prospectus over the years that ended up a little wide of the mark. Here are a few of my favorites:
On Hanley Ramirez, before his monster rookie campaign (.292/.353/.480 at age 22) with the Florida Marlins:

Willis has MRI on injured knee
detroit.tigers.mlb.com 4/12/2008 — Tigers left-hander Dontrelle Willis underwent an MRI exam on Saturday morning to determine the extent of the injury to his hyperextended right knee, which he suffered in the first inning of Friday's game against the White Sox.
In the first inning, Willis' right leg gave way on his first pitch to Orlando Cabrera, the second batter he faced. He continued for a few pitches, walking Cabrera and ...
