Yanks decline to offer arbitration
River Avenue Blues —

Say goodbye to all of those draft picks you thought the Yankees would obtain. According to Peter Abraham, the Yankees are not offering anyone arbitration. The LoHud Yankees Blog: That’s right, nobody. So forget those draft picks. More to come … UPDATE, 5:27 p.m.: It came down to economics. The Yankees did not want to risk going to arbitration with any of their players given the salaries they made last season. Yanks Do Not Flex Financial Muscle
YFSF —
... Rather than risk overpaying on one-year deals for decent-if-not-great players, the Yanks have chosen to take the safe route. Brian Cashman and company have decided not to offer arbitration to Andy Pettitte and Bobby Abreu. As Pete Abe, who was one of the first to break the news, suggests, it's about payroll: ...
Abraham: Nobody Gets Arbitration
YanksBlog.com —
That's right, folks. After much speculation, it turns out that Andy Pettitte, Bobby Abreu and Pudge Rodriguez will all be waking up on Christmas morning to find no present under the tree from the Yankees. Peter Abraham says that the Yankees "remain engaged with Pettitte and Abreu," however. When you actually sit down and look at it, there aren't any real surprises here. Not quite sure why Mr. Abraham expected Pettitte to get an offer. If the Yankees were going to give him $16 million again he'd be on the books already. I'd like to have Pettitte back, but it would be ...
Yanks just say no to arbitration
Pinstripe Alley —

Bobby Abreu made $16 million, Andy Pettitte made $16 million and Pudge Rodriguez made $13 million. All three would have been in a position to get at least as much via arbitration and likely some sort of raise.
Meanwhile, if Mike Mussina suddenly decides to play for somebody else, the Yankees get nothing in return. Sure, that’s extremely unlikely. But that was supposedly the case for Roger Clemens, too.
Cashman said the Yankees remain engaged with Pettitte and Abreu. To what degree isn’t ...

I saw this post from Pete Abraham last night, but I wanted to wait to post something because I wasn't sure how I felt. It came down to economics. The Yankees did not want to risk going to arbitration with any of their players given the salaries they made last season. To refresh your memories: Bobby Abreu made $16 million, Andy Pettitte made $16 million and Pudge Rodriguez made $13 million.
