Move Over, Mia: I know, it’s blasphemy, or maybe it now goes without saying, but Abby Wambach might be better than Mia Hamm. Who’ve heard the phrase ‘a man among boys,’ well, Abby is a woman among girls. She towers over most opponents, outweighs most opponents, out-muscles most opponents, and out-skills them. SATURDAY 9 PM PDT --- Team USA is now just hours from their trip to China for the 2007 FIFA World Cup, after a convincing 4-1 victory over Finland at the Home Depot Center. This makes a perfect 12-0-0 for the USA against Finland (who did not qualify for the World Cup finals) ---Kristine Lilly scored her 126th goal and notched her 100th assist. --- All available players took the field for the U.S. except for Briana Scurry, and Aly Wagner returned to the field for the first time since May.
The USWNT won the first World Cup in 1991, and the third in 1999. The latter, as well as the 2003 edition were held in the USA. The Asian SARS epidemic in early 2003 caused China to cancel their original plans to host that year, so they were awarded the finals this time around.
The USWNT is ranked number one in the world in the current FIFA World Rankings.
