Cowboys show interest in Zach Thomas plus other reading material

The Cowboys want to talk to recently cut Miami linebacker Zach Thomas. The DMN also has an article on the subject. It’s an interesting idea, before he was injured last year he was still a tackling machine. If the price is right, I could see this as a positive. I’ll have to think about it a little more though. Hat tip to BoyzRback07 for posting this news here. Nick Eatman says forget the draft, let’s talk free agents. T.O. was the MVP at the NBA All-Star Weekend Celebrity Game. Did you guys see his jam on ESPN? Hat tip to both jsams ...

Unlikely Zach Thomas or Alge Crumpler comes to Cincinnati
Published 2/16/2008 by Kirkendall <info@cincyjungle.com> at Cincy Jungle: Front Page Posts
Mark Curnutte is bringing up several "play the GM" points after a rash of cuts from teams determined to scratch their payroll. Curnutte points out that while Alge Crumpler is available becoming easily the team's best tight end, he also points out that Marcus Wilkins was also let go. Likely, the Bengals won't go after Crumpler's expected salary -- assuming he hovers around the same benchmark. Marcus Wilkins I could see the team going after to improve the talent on special teams -- especially if Caleb Miller isn't expected back. An even less likely scenario is the team going after Zach Thomas -- especially with Dallas, whom would likely ...

SAINTS CHASING THOMAS, TOO
Published 2/16/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
Before linebacker Zach Thomas visits with the Cowboys, he’ll spend some time getting acquainted with the Saints. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Thomas will meet with the Saints before the Scouting Combine.  He’s due to take a trip to Big D after the Indianapolis rookie assessment event. If Thomas signs with the Saints, it’ll be the second straight year that his team loses a home game to England.  Thomas didn’t make the trip with the Dolphins in 2007 due to a concussion suffered in an automobile accident.

There really wasn't too much going on this weekend.  But with the deadline to "franchise" players quickly approaching, things will liven up this week.   Until then, here's what you might have missed this weekend. ASANTE SAMUEL TALK ProFootballTalk posted a little blurb discussing the market for Asante Samuel.  They mention an article in the Boston Herald that claims the Jets and Browns are two potential suitors for Samuel.  But the guys at PFT feel that the Dolphins might also be a potential suitor for Asante: ...

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Patriots have offered a contract to free-agent linebacker Zach Thomas, who was cut by the Dolphins last week. Thomas and agent Drew Rosenhaus visited with the Patriots on Monday. Next up?  A visit to New Orleans.  The Cowboys, Texans, Bills, and Jets also are interested in acquiring Thomas.

Zach Thomas update: Pats offer contract
Published 2/19/2008 by Matty I <info@thephinsider.com> at The Phinsider: Front Page Posts
Well, one of our fears may come to fruition as Dolphin fans.  Adam Schefter is reporting that the Patriots have offered Zach Thomas a contract.  Negotiations between his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and the Pats will continue.   Thomas visited with New England today and is still scheduled to meet with the Saints tomorrow.  Schefter does point out that the Jets, Bills, Broncos, Texans, and Cowboys all are interested in bringing Thomas in for a visit. What does this mean to the Dolphins?  Nothing, except that cutting Zach might prove to come back and bite the Dolphins in the ass.  You have to wonder if Thomas still might have more left ...

Patriots Are Serious About Zach Thomas, Offer Him Contract Before He Leaves Foxboro
Published 2/19/2008 by Ryan Wilson at FanHouse
Filed under: Cowboys, Dolphins, Patriots, Saints, NFL Fans, NFL Free AgencyThis morning I mentioned that former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas would visit the Patriots and joked that if the team let him off the property without signing him to a contract, the seven-time Pro Bowler would also visit the Cowboys and Saints later in the week. Well, Thomas still plans on trips to Dallas and New Orleans, but this is kinda shocking even though it shouldn't be, I suppose: The Patriots offered a contract to former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas on Monday, reports NFL Network's Adam ...

More Dolphins headed for Foxboro?
Published 2/19/2008 by Chris Radez at Bleacher Report
As soon as I heard the new and improved front office down in Miami had released Zach Thomas, I knew it was only a matter of time before he auditioned for BB and Co. Sure, he's not getting any younger, but he fits a mold that seems to work very well in New England: Fill your team with guys who want to win. Zach made the trip to Foxboro on Monday and the Patriots were impressed enough to make an undisclosed offer to the former Dolphin. Thomas was slated to make $5.65 million in 2008, and will make a trip to New Orleans on Tuesday. The Patriots are also scheduled to have Marty Booker in town for a workout. Marty, like Wes Welker, has been ...

The Patriots have offered former Dolphin linebacker Zach Thomas a contract. Adam Teicher thinks that it is unlikely that the Chiefs extend Jared Allen a long-term contract offer. I almost certainly think they will. The use of the franchise tag is a strategic move used by the Chiefs to have more power over Allen and his rights as a free agent. It isn't a firm declaration of anything really. At least not at this point in the game. The Chiefs will get it done. KC Chiefs Fanatic is starting their own mock draft, with the results ...

The Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets are also interested in bringing Thomas in for a visit. Bills show interest in Zach Thomas

On Wednesday, Adam Schefter at the NFL Network reported that the Bills are among several teams interested in former Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas. Schefter said the Patriots already offered Thomas a contract on Monday, but the Saints, Cowboys, Bills, Texans, Broncos and Jets are also interested. The veteran linebacker missed 11 games in 2007 due to concussion problems and migraines. However, he was extremly productive in those five games, posting 52 total tackles. Thomas just completed his twelfth NFL season and is 34-years-old. However, he’s been one of the top middle linebackers in the league for years. In 10 of his 12 seasons he has ...
