Tiger Woods walked to the 18th tee on Sunday needing birdie to win. So what happened? Of course he made birdie to win...doesn't he always.
Woods had a 25 foot putt on the final hole to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he studied it from every angle, and calmly rolled it in. Fellow competitor, Bart Bryant, who challenged Woods all day said, "I heard a big cheer and I got up and left. That's why he's Tiger Woods."
Tied for the lead on one of the toughest finishing holes in golf, Woods delivered one of his best swings of the day, a 5-iron from 164 yards. Then drained the winner to keep his win streak alive, at 5 events.
It was his 64th victory, tying Ben Hogan for third on the all time wins list. Woods shot back to back 66's to stay perfect on the season. Runner up Bart Bryant was the only player in the field to break par all four days. And it was good enough to beat everyone in the field, except the world's number one.
There have been five winning streaks of at least five tournaments in PGA history, Woods owns three of them. The others belong to Byron Nelson, 11 in a row and Ben Hogan, he won six in a row.
Woods won at Bay Hill for the fifth time, becoming the golfer to win at least five times at four different tournaments. He's won the Buick Invitational, the Bridgestone Invitational and the CA Championship, where he'll play next week as the defending champ.
Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead are now looking in the side mirror as it reads, objects are closer then they appear. That's because Nicklaus is next on the wins list with 73, and after that is Snead's mark of 82 wins.
Woods just makes a habit out of hitting great shots when it matters.
