Since I grew up as a White Sox fan, the majority of my baseball watching life has been spent watching the American League. This tends to lead other folks to believe that I prefer the American League to it's older counterpart the National League. This is not true. I love the National League. ... (for the most part) but the game is much more pure. Pitchers are actually required to hit and the lack of a designated hitter leads to a whole lot more strategy in the game. The double switches, knowing when to pull your starter in favor of more offense, neither of these things take place in the American League. Over in the AL, a manager just has to put in a lineup card, and sit back and wait for his starter to get rocked before doing anything. To be honest, it's kind of boring... Continue reading at FanHouse
