S T. LOUIS - Tim Wakefield [ stats ] didn t get a chance to show the world his tricky knuckleball at last night s All-Star Game. Relegated to a sort of secret-weapon role by American League manager Joe Maddon, Wakefield s job was to be prepared for multiple innings had the game been tied after ...

I'm glad the AL won the semi meaningless
All Star game but I'm a little miffed about...
a few things. I'll skip the political rant and stick to the main beef. Why didn't Joe Maddon get Tim Wakefield in for a couple of batters in say the third, forth or fifth inning? I know he was afraid to ...

Let us all take a moment to feel sorry for old Tim Wakefield
Big League Stew —
ST LOUIS — A lot of situations in baseball are labeled as ironic and what happened to old Tim Wakefield during Tuesday night's All-Star Game can accurately be described as such. After battling through a 17-year career and then finally making his first All-Star Game this season, the very skills of endurance that Wakefield used for the achievement prevented him from throwing even one pitch. The 42-year-old Boston lefty remained in the American League bullpen for the entire night and thus leaves St. Louis with the same amount of All-Star experience that he had before. Here's guessing that Wake doesn't have another 17 years so he can actually appear in ...

The
way that a vocal minority on sports talk radio from the Cape Cod to
Burlington, Vermont tells the story, Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim
Wakefield got the short end of the stick at the All-Star Game. Reserved
for "extra-inning duties," Wakefield was left to cheer on his league
mates since the situation didn't call for him to throw a pitch, leading
to some misguided outrage at the situation. Some carrying card
members of Red Sox nation have gone so far as to call American League
manager Joe Maddon classless for not giving the veteran an inning in
his first, and what will likely be his only, All-Star appearance. You can count Nick Colon among the Maddon critics (H/T ...

It has literally nothing to
do with Tim Wakefield himself, and literally everything to do with that

Tim Wakefield Placed on 15-Day DL
sportsofboston.com 7/21/2009 — There’s got to be a reason Tim Wakefield didn’t play in the All-Star Game . Fans complained and didn’t buy Joe Maddon’s excuse that he was saving Wakefield for extra innings. Maybe Maddon intended that…but maybe there was another hidden reason. Was he injured?
