Move the Crew!
The 24th Minute —
Don't look at me, I didn't say it. Although Match Fit USA does admit that there is an element of "tongue and cheek" in its argument, the premise - that MLS teams need to perform on and off the field to be considered a true success -- is solid. And, many of Match Fit's readers seem to agree. Although other markets struggle as well, especially in the playoffs, I'm not sure that’s a valid argument for justifying the half empty stadium last night. Yes, it's a Thursday night, yes it's cold and yes it's college football season (although shouldn't moving the Crew game ...
Take Me Out to the Playoffs – Week 2
Major League Soccer Talk —
... The 2nd legs of the conference semifinals began with an extremely disappointing crowd of just over 10,000 in Columbus. This showing was so poor as to prompt Jason Davis of Match Fit USA to write that it’s time for the Crew to move. No such issues in Chicago, whose fans didn’t turn out in great numbers during the regular season, but sold out Toyota Park, with 21,528 in attendance. In Houston, 27,400 saw the Dynamo eliminate the Sounders. The round finished off with a sellout at the HDC. ...
Evening Links and Thoughts: Monday Madness
WVHooligan - Soccer Blog —
I won’t lie to you all, I’ve had a case of the Mondays. As much as I want to post a big long edition of things tonight I just for the life of me don’t have the time to do so tonight. Instead I have a couple links with very short comments on them.
McCarty Re-signs with FCD (link) – Good stuff by Dallas to get one of their better midfielders back for next year. Hard to believe he was pretty much dead in the water to start 2009 in most people’s eyes here. Glad he and Schellas Hyndman got rid of whatever issues they had with one another.

The Dark Side of the “Franchise”
Futfanatico —
... The possibility of developing history, establishing roots, and fermenting growth is a non-factor in the capitalist-dominated franchise system. Case in point: recently, the Columbus Crew, 2008 MLS Champion, do not fill their homefield for a playoff match. The reaction? Well-respected ...
The Sweeper: Move the Columbus Crew?
Pitch Invasion —
... The American soccer blogosphere has been getting very hot and bothered in the past week, prompted by Jason Davis at Match Fit USA’s tongue-in-cheek post questioning Columbus’ suitability for remaining in MLS, following poor attendance in their last playoff game: a mere 10,109 showed up at Crew Stadium last week to see the defending champions crash out to Real Salt Lake. Davis wrote, “Columbus had its shot, and I guess you could call it a decent fourteen year run; but it’s better to get out too early than too late, and all of those ...
