Scott Dixon won the Indianapolis 500, beating Vitor Meira to the checkered flag by 1.75 seconds. It was the first win at Indy for Dixon, who started on the pole and led most of the race. He’s the first New Zealand native to capture the Indy 500. I always thought Nick Price was a fellow New Zealander, but he was born in South Africa and moved to Zimbabwe (it’s those ...Posted 5/25/2008 on Indy Racing Revolution
Scott Dixon maintains a lead of a couple of car lengths, but he can’t shake Vitor Meira, Helio Castroneves and Marco Andretti with 20 laps left.Posted 5/25/2008 on Indy Racing Revolution
The No. 23 machine of Milka Duno has spun out in the short chute, but managed to keep the car off the track and brought it to a stop in the grass at Turn 4. A gash on her car’s left rear tire was visible. We are under yellow at Lap 169. Duno was fighting with Buddy Lazier in Turn 3 and had to go very low on the racetrack to avoid contact with the 1996 Indy 500 champion. Unfortunately, ...Posted 5/25/2008 on Indy Racing Revolution
A.J. Foyt IV is out of the car and alert after a fire erupted on his No. 2 Vision Racing Dallara during his pit stop at Lap 39. The fire is out, but the grandson of four-time Indy 500 winner A.J. Foyt Jr. may be done for the day. His Vision crew are now looking over the car right now. Graham Rahal is also okay after his incident that triggered this current yellow period.Posted 5/25/2008 on The Big Lead
How about a round of applause to our NASCAR guy, Nick Bromberg, for 1) answering emails while on a cruise and 2) banging out a lil’ somethin’ on the Indy 500? Ah, the drive and desire of plucky college kids. This woman? That’s Milka Duno, a former naval engineer who bears a mild resemblance to Charo . Also, she used to be a model and “poor man’s Danica ...Posted 5/23/2008 on MVN Outsider
With the Indianapolis 500 this weekend, open wheeled racing gets its one day in the sun for the year. Afterwards, it fades into the fine print of most sports pages, buried back with the local Division II track and field results. Given the huge popularity of NASCAR here in the United States and the vast following that Formula One racing has throughout Europe, one has to wonder why Indy Car ...Posted 5/19/2008 on With Leather - Sports news and gossip for your impressionable young children
There were a bunch of crashes during Indy 500 practice over the weekend, increasing exponentially the chances that I would write about Indy 500 practice. Too bad Danica Patrick couldn't find the time to run over anyone else. The worst of the five over the weekend featured A.J. Foyt IV's car bursting into a massive fireball as a result of a crew member not tightening the fuel cap. Who ...Posted 5/19/2008 on on 205th magazine: Stuff Guys Like. [Pop Culture For Men]
The Indy 500 is next weekend, assuming that there are any cars left to actually race since every time I turned around the last two weekends they were picking pieces of the cars out of the wall. Yesterday was no exception as A.J. Foyt IV bumped his way into the field only to see his gas cap come off, resulting in a fiery crash. And yes you did read that right, his gas cap came off. "AnyonePosted 5/19/2008 on FanIQ Blog
I don't know what's been going on of late at the Indy 500 practices, but at the rate things are going, no one's going to have a car left to race next weekend. AJ Foyt IV's car went up in a ball of flames during a weekend practice run when a crew member failed to tighten the fuel cap on the car. Whoops. The fire left Foyt with a small burn on the back of his neck and singed ...Posted 5/19/2008 on SPORTSbyBROOKS
A.J. Foyt IV was scorching at Speedway on Sunday, as the ASSOCIATED PRESS reports that the Indianapolis 500 hopeful was on fire - literally . Just after barely securing a qualifying spot for next weekend’s Indy 500, Foyt was making a practice run ’round the oval, when flames shot out from the back of his vehicle, causing him to hit the wall. It’s likely that Foyt was ...johnnyhair posted 5/26/2008 from www.tireball.com
