The Alphabet Definitely Doesn't End With 'TZXYXZ'
Published 11/29/2007 at The Sporting Blog
By Chris Mottram
Preface: Yes, I understand that drunk driving isn't a joking matter, nor is Tony LaRussa being arrested for such an offense.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way, this video is freaking great. There is so much entertainment value. From the cops tapping on his window to wake him up, to La Russa absolutely butchering the alphabet and so much in between.
If this is how drunk the Cards' coach gets after two glasses of wine, then he is the cheapest date of all time (you know, in a world where women paid for dates and actually got excited about men getting wasted): ...

Remember when cops found the Cardinals manager drunk in his car? Outstanding tip from a reader. The video is tremendous and painful, all rolled into one. Two glasses of wine make you lose your balance and butcher the alphabet?

I will have more to say on this video tomorrow, but I would be a poor, poor Cubs blogger if I didn’t put up The Genius’s DUI video. Forget your favorite celebrity’s sex tape. This is the greatest video on the internet.
Thanks to Dolan for pointing it out and to Borowski for providing another link.

TONY LARUSSA'S DUI VIDEO IS FUNNY, SAD
Published 11/29/2007 at With Leather
Tony LaRussa pleaded guilty and took full responsibility the other day for the charges of his DUI arrest eight months ago. And the local Florida police department awesomely released the video of his arrest. It starts out hilariously, as he claims that he was asleep at the wheel because he got up early and had only two glasses of wine. Then it gets kind of depressing after he gets put in the squad car and gets further testing at the police station. True story: Friday, June 15, 2001. The day I graduated from armor school at crappy-ass Fort Knox. I ...
The Man’s Harassment Of Tony La Genius

Much as I’d like to presume Cardinals skipper Tony La Russa just needed a little more rest last March, surely he knows better than anyone else exactly how many stray cats and dogs are killed each year by drunk motorists?

THE NICKELODEON: TONY LARUSSA'S DUI VIDEO
Published 11/30/2007 by DCScrap at EPIC CARNIVAL | SPORTS NEWS WITH A TWIST
Remember back in March when Tony "The Genius" LaRussa blew a .093 in Florida? When he told an officer that it had been a "long day" for him and he was returning home from dinner, during which he had "several glasses of wine?" Where upon his release, LaRussa was given back his personal property, which included four league championship rings? (Why is he wearing/carrying four championship rings anyway?) Well, now we have the video! Relive the good times ... after the jump. ...

...and don't you forget it. Incidentally, there's really something that is begging to be said about the inextricable link that we have created in our North American sports culture between booze and sports. But we'll keep it to ourselves for fear of offending our pals over at Drunk Jays Fans. (Hat tip to the G&M's incomparable Jeff Blair for the link.)

TONY LA RUSSA DUI ARREST VIDEO
The LaRussa DUI Video Is Only Kinda Funny
Published 12/2/2007 by stoeten at And Your Kids Too
I'll be honest with you, I don't find this video of Tony LaRussa passed out at the wheel, unable to recite the alphabet or walk a straight line and then getting arrested for DUI nearly as entertaining as the idea of Tony LaRussa doing all those things. It's a whole lot more pathetic than it is comical, and is kind of boring to watch. Plus it's hard to get excited about posting it now, because I first saw mention of it a couple of days ago and thought for sure it was a joke. Otherwise I would have posted it right away and felt pretty good about myself. Now? ... meh. ...
White Rat: Exterminated
Published 12/4/2007 by athooks at Cardinals Diaspora
Billy Southworth was elected to the Hall of Fame yesterday. Whitey Herzog could have been if one more asshat would have voted for him.
Southworth has been chunked in the clay for over 40 years, but from 42-44, the Feebles won the NL pennant 3 times and the World Series twice. His head stone that reads ‘What the hell is the problem with LaRussa’ makes much more sense today.
The White Rat guided the franchise out of the depressing 70’s (or so the WaterGirl tells me) into the team that that I grew up with in the 80’s. 3 NL pennants and 1 World Series are the hallmarks of Herzog’s tenure. He was also the GM ...

La Russa Still Believes McGwire Never Did Steroids
Published 2/27/2008 by jason at SPORTSbyBROOKS
Bryan Burwell of the ST. LOUIS POST DISPATCH chronicles a recent chat he had with Cardinals manager Tony La Russa on the eve of spring training. While down in Florida, Burwell approached the St. Louis skipper about the subject of steroids - and more specifically, the legacy of Mark McGwire . La Russa still firmly believes that the former St. Louis slugger never used any performance-enhancing drugs. Such a stance lead to some interesting dialogue between reporter and manager ...

It’s been 5 years since Michael Lewis’s “Moneyball” hit the shelves - making Billy Beane, OBP, and Chad Bradford household names and challenging many of the long-held assumptions about baseball.
But the real game is played on the field and managed by those who wear the uniform. And no one has had an impact on the game itself more than the man who has been coaching for 27 straight seasons: Tony La Russa.
Following are excerpts from ‘Tonyball - Seeing in the Dark’ by Bill Conlin (Philadelphia Daily News, Sports Reports, Baseball Writers Association of American ...

KC Masterpiece Bold 2008 MLB predictions
Published 4/9/2008 by Hick Flick at Rumors and Rants
Phillips, see if you can get the BBQ sauce people in on this so my corporate whored-out name makes us some cash. I'm also willing to accept a lifetime supply of sauce. Now that we are a week into the MLB season, it is time for me to unveil my official predictions for 2008. Originally I planned on doing this before the season actually started. But then the A's and Red Sox opened in Japan before returning to the U.S. to play more spring training games, which threw me off. I then planned on unveiling my predictions on the traditional opening day (last Monday), but was too hungover to do so. The next day was April Fools ...

Tony LaRussa Never Takes a Moment Off

As Fancypants pointed out, Dan Shulman had a nice description of Tony LaRussa before tonight’s Cardinals-Mets game started.
As you can see, Shulman pointed out that LaRussa “never takes a moment off”, and that’s how he became an MLB manager for 30 years. Except for this one:

Hire Me? Hire This Guy Instead!
Published 10 days ago by Skip at Hire Jim Essian!
Hi gang! Jim “Skip” Essian here, checking in with you just before the pennant race gets any more uninteresting. You see, the Cubs are pulling away from Milwaukee and St. Louis, threatening to make September moot. The Cubs close August with 13 games after going 11-4 in their first 15. Ten of the final 13 are at home (three are in Pittsburgh). The final four games are at home against potential playoff opponent Philadelphia. The other nine games are against the Reds, Nationals and Pirates. If the Cubs can go 5-8 the rest of the month and winless the rest of the way, they’d still finish .500, a feat that ...
