TORII HUNTER'S DEAL FINISHED AT DEL TACO
Published 11/27/2007 at With Leather
The Angels just recently overspent to sign Twins free agent Torii Hunter, and his agent Larry Reynolds and Angels GM Tony Reagins finalized the deal at a Del Taco. During Reynolds and Reagins' conversation, Reynolds said he wanted to make sure that the Angels were truly interested. When he found out they were, he and [the Riverside-based] Reagins decided to meet [last] Tuesday afternoon at the Del Taco off the Serfas Club Drive exit off [California Highway] 91. "I drive the 91 pretty often," said Reagins, who hails from Indio. "Del Taco is one of my favorite fast food chains. I knew that one halfway between ...

Angels Negotiated Hunter Deal at Del Taco

... where the deal was finalized. Torii as you could imagine, was quite surprised: "I always imagined my deal would get done inside a board room or a Capital Grille," Hunter told USA Today. "Turns out it was done at a Del Taco. Can you believe it? The deal gets done over some tacos."Maybe Reagins was just trying to save a few bucks to pay Hunter's $90 million. They may do business at cheap places, but nobody can call the Angels cheap after that move. (via SPORTSbyBROOKS and Ballhype)   Permalink | Email ...

Because we miss Lost … so is Carson Daly crossing the picket line a big deal or not? … if you weren’t listening to Howard Stern this morning, he said he’s going to be Letterman’s first guest when that show returns to TV … if the Google Guys are getting behind renewable energy, then obviously you should plan to do the same … he man, nice shot … we need to thank Mike Wilbon for his TV selection on PTI last night - the Charlie Brown Christmas special, that’s always some great stuff (nerdy: we have the theme song on our Ipod) … A massive, but totally worthwhile feature on ...

Wednesday’s Basically Top Five Links
Published 11/28/2007 by Jamie Mottram at Mr. Irrelevant
Today’s edition of Basically Top Five comes later than usual as I’m in LA and mourning the loss of one of our favorites. Speaking of, be sure to vote Sean Taylor for the Pro Bowl and buy some 21 tribute tees while you’re at it. Unless you’re Michael Wilbon, in which case you’re still finding ways to defend your commentary. Duke is pissed at ESPN. Not possible. Another bad ’80s team rap video exposed. The ‘86 Rams and their song, ‘Ram It’ (nothing sexy about that) are breathtaking. Torii Hunter struck his $90 million ...

TORII HUNTER TALKS TACOS AND SUN TANS
Published 11/29/2007 by HG at YOU BEEN BLINDED
... The news of Torii Hunter’s agent reaching a deal with Angels GM Tony Reagins in a Del Taco broke earlier this week, and I laugh every time it crosses my mind. Hunter wasn’t actually at the Del Taco, but can you imagine the floodgates that Torii’s agent has opened? Fat guys all throughout baseball will want their deals done everywhere from Mickey D’s to Shakeys. I’m sure Rich Garces, Bob Wickman, Dennys Reyes, Boof Bonser ( ...

... - anyone from Howie Kendrick to catcher Jeff Mathis, infielder Brandon Wood, outfielder Reggie Willits, and even Gary Mathews Jr." "I do not believe the Yankees are out of the Santana hunt yet." Well, OK, then. Actually that makes perfect sense. The Angels have a recent history of sniping players at the last second, usually with half of America unaware that they were even in the market - this includes their recent signing of Torii Hunter. No word yet on which fast food restaurant will host the signing if the deal goes through. Also worth ...

Linebrink Deal Doesn't Make Sense

So let me see if I have this straight. The White Sox will not offer starting pitchers more than 3 year deals, unless you are Mark Buehrle and get 4. They also thought Jon Garland was too expensive at $13 million this season, so they dealt him to the Angels. So the next logical step, obviously, is to offer a middle reliever a four-year contract worth $19 million. Whuh?
