PIT Post-Gazette: Torres files grievance, asks for trade Reliever Salomon Torres, angry with the Pirates about what he feels was a broken promise in negotiating his most recent contract, has filed a grievance against the team and asked general manager Dave Littlefield to trade him. I ve given everything I have to the team, to the city of Pittsburgh, and I would like nothing more than to be part of a championship there, Torres said by phone from Bradenton, Fla., where he is rehabilitating his right elbow. But I ve had enough. They tricked me into signing that contract... ... Torres, who did not have an agent in those [2006] talks, contends that he agreed to less money than market value because Littlefield had strongly suggested though not in writing that the team would consider renting one of the two baseball academies Torres built in his native Dominican Republic. Sometimes the Real News is More Funny
Published 7/3/2007 by Pat at Doubt About It
Two Post-Gazette links in 10 minutes? I guess today is just one of those days where the real news is funnier than anything we can come up with. Salomon Torres feels tricked. The Pirates apparently low-balled him (he didnt use an agent) and said that he'd been promised the Pirates would rent out his baseball facilities in the Dominican Republic (there was nothing put into writing). ...

Pirates deal Torres for two minor league relievers
Published 12/7/2007 by Matt Bandi at Pittsburgh Lumber Co.
... Torres likely had little trade value, due to his age and struggles last season. He may have had a few decent years left in his arm, and his departure leaves a huge hole in the bullpen. But I take this as a good sign, that Huntington is looking to the future as opposed to 2008. He was able to turn an aging reliever into two young relievers that could be productive at the Major League level in a few years. Also considerations are Torres’ $3.2 million salary in 2008 and the grievance he filed against the team last year. All in all, this move is not very significant. ...
