Marvin Williams on the Block?
Hoopinion — ESPN.com's Chad Ford on the possibility of Marvin being traded before February 19th: Marvin Williams, Hawks Williams starts at the 3 for the Hawks but can also play the 4 in a small-ball lineup. He is the guy the Hawks infamously took instead of Chris Paul in 2005. While Williams has been solid, he hasn't been great. And the Hawks will have a tough decision to make with him hitting restricted free agency this summer. The team already is cash strapped. Joe Johnson and Josh Smith have huge deals. Mike Bibby will also be a free agent. Ditto for Josh Childress. And sooner than ...

Taking Your Toys and Going Home? Really?
ESPN.com - TrueHoop — The financial crisis is real, and has ramifications for NBA teams. Attendance and TV ratings appear to be good, but nevertheless the most plugged in sources I ever talk to all agree that teams -- just about all teams -- are actively seeking ways to slash payroll. Certainly some owners will take this opportunity to buy low, but in general I think teams are pinch every penny possible. The Power of an Expiring Contract In a league with guaranteed contracts, however, there just aren't that many ways to cut salary.  And really, the only way to reduce salary a lot is to have a guy on your roster when his contract ...

Chad Ford Is At It Again
Depressed Fan — I'm just going to show the entire Elton Brand section of Chad Ford's latest piece and let you guys have at it in the comments. This is getting a bit ridiculous. Elton Brand, Sixers The Sixers are experiencing quite a bit of buyer's remorse after giving Brand an $80 million contract this past summer. Brand has been awful in the early going. To make matters worse, he struggles to play the style the rest of the team wants to play. More and more, it's looking like a bad fit for both parties. I've heard rumblings over the past few weeks that the Sixers would let Brand go for expiring contracts and a future pick -- a pretty small price for the ...

Sixers Rumors: Follow Up On Brand and Some Andre Miller Nonsense
Recliner GM — Two days ago I wrote a post about Elton Brand being available according to a Chad Ford chat.  A few things have happened since then. The first of which is Phil Jasner doing his best to shoot down a Brand rumor. My comment: Calm down. While Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski said he does not comment on rumors, a source familiar with the Sixers situation said that Ford’s premise is incorrect, that Stefanski had not contacted anyone about Brand, that the chat session comment had no legs. - Phil Jasner What premise?  Chad Ford did exactly what Jasner is doing now - ...

Centers of Attention - Which Big Men do the Heat Have Their Eyes On?
Miami Sports Generation — A report by ESPN's sport columnist, Chad Ford, revealed the trading block rumors that have been swirling around the league in regards to the Center and Power Forward positions. With the Miami Heat in serious need of a longer, more dominant Center to grab the reigns of their 5 spot, they have been mentioned on many occasions throughout the report. Each individual was labeled with the chance (%) they would likely be traded before the trade deadline, according to ESPN. Here's a list of the prospective players that have been on Pat Riley's mind: ...

ESPN Trade Watch: Top big men on the block
Full-Court Press — Chad Ford of ESPN has a list of NBA big men that are supposedly on the trading block and what their chances are of being traded. January 31, ESPN: Jermaine O'Neal, Raptors O'Neal was traded last June. And now, with this trade deadline swirling, he is at the center of the storm again. The Raptors are ready to move him and develop Andrea Bargnani at the 5. But can the Raptors find someone willing to pay the injury-prone O'Neal $30 million over the next season and a half? The Heat have shown the most interest. The Knicks and the Bulls also might make some sense. Chance of trade: ...

Game Thread #48: @ Nuggets
Pounding The Rock — ... Bawful from Basketbawful, one of the best blogs out there, period, has started a blog focusing solely on the Bulls and their many woes. It's called "By the Horns", and highly recommended. Don't miss the Dull-Negrometer. (Del Negro, the anti-Pop?) ESPN? Really? - From time to time ESPN analysts produce something worth reading. Chris Sheridan expounds on the top 12 trade assests in the league at this point, and Chad Ford makes a list of the top big men on the trading block. I had fun with them. Duke - I really don't ...
