The Boston Globe is reporting that Big East Commissioner Mike Tranghese, the man in charge of the coference since 1990, will announce his retirement later today. One of only two people to ever be in charge of the conference, it'll be some huge shoes to fill next June when he officially steps down. There are various reports circulating that Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese will announce his retirement today, effective at the end of the 2008-09 season. While I've personally never been a huge fan of Mike's work, fellow Idiot Champ has had quite a few gripes with him over the years. I'll hold off on getting into some of those issues and leave that to him - he's really the master on all things Mikey T. I can't promise you anything, but check back later today or tomorrow, I'm pretty sure Champ has a few things he'll want to get off his chest over this ...

Tranghese to step down

The end of an era is coming and it's one that I have to say I "did not see coming". With the Big East looking great in men's basketball, while football is beginning to turn around and become a good conference (and stay as a BCS one), I never thought to hear the words "I am stepping down" from the conference commissioner Mike Tranghese.
