Travis Outlaw not content being a sixth man for the Blazers
Travis Outlaw not content being a sixth man for the Blazers
So he is content to wait another year, perhaps two, for his personal aspirations to take precedence. But he wants to make one thing clear: He is not content remaining with the status quo of his game. "I don't want to be a sixth man forever," Outlaw says.

The Hoop Doctors Daily Dimes: 09/01
The Hoop Doctors — ... from all over the world wide web Bradley blocked many shots in his day, but he was THE poster victim extraordinaire! Greatest big man poster job: Hoops Vibe Oklahoma City’s new logo has been leaked. Some are not impressed… Huge Logo Leak! Travis Outlaw not content with being sixth man for Blazers. Today's Warnings : 1 September, 2008
A Stern Warning - NBA, NBL and FIBA News & Views — ... As a Blazers fan, I think I like this attitude from Travis Outlaw. He's not content to stay as the Blazers' 6th man and wants to work his way up to being a star. That's got to be a good thing for the team, with plenty of competition coming at Martell Webster and Rudy Fernandez. However I guess it means that surely within the next two-three seasons one of those guys will be shipped out. ...

Travis Outlaw: I Want Shots
Rip City Project | A Portland Trailblazers blog — ... The next part of Jason Quick's Rip City Revival series focused on the sixth man, Travis Outlaw. Must-read stuff here, I would most definitely check it out. It's a strange back and forth as sometimes Outlaw springs into this cockiness, but then sprints back into humble mode. Not easy to get a read on where his mind is at...but who knows if it's even anywhere. Sometimes he expresses doubt, others he wants to be like Kobe, others he wants to be a team player. This one really had me thinking though as Outlaw said some pretty intriguing stuff. Here are some bits and pieces of ...

Travis Outlaw ready to take it to the next level
NBA Noise — Today the Oregonian's Jason Quick published an article and video giving a behind-the-scenes look at Travis Outlaw. Not only does it give a great look into Outlaw's roots and personality, but it gives some insights into the player he wants to become. Outlaw, who has been a key sixth-man for the Blazers, and the go-to scorer in their second unit, hopes that his career doesn't consist just of being a sixth man. "I don't want people to think I'm satisfied with coming off the bench all the time," Outlaw says. "I want to start ... I feel like I have ...

Why Shouldn't Travis Outlaw Feel Squeezed?
FanHouse — Filed under: Trail BlazersIt's a quite Labor Day for the NBA, so an excellent Jason Quick Oregonian feature on Blazer mystic Travis Outlaw is drawing some chatter. The news hook basically goes that Outlaw expects more of himself than to be a sixth man in Portland, and there's an inkling he expects more of a chance from Nate McMillan and friends. Some vital excerpts: [H]e says he would like to average 15 shots this season -- the amount [Brandon] Roy and [LaMarcus] Aldridge averaged last season -- and disputes the ...

Labor Day Weekend Fundamentals
BallerBlogger.com — ... Jason Quick of The Oregonian:  “”I saw Bayless have a great Summer League,” Outlaw says. “And Rudy, he’s having a great Olympics, you know? Shots are going to go down somewhere, and I feel I’m the lowest guy on the totem pole, so it may be me.” He came to Portland in 2003, right out of Starkville High. That makes him the longest-tenured Blazer, and he notes that he has seen a lot in his time — from the self-destruction of Bonzi Wells and the trade request of a disgruntled Rasheed Wallace to the franchise’s passing fancies ...

Travis Outlaw wants to start, but he's not complaining
Ball Don't Lie — ... 's latest batch of quotes sort of falls right down the middle of these two. Actually, scratch that. Closer to the former. It's still worth going over, but it wouldn't be correct to think that this guy is a half-step away from demanding to start. ...

First Cup: Tuesday
ESPN.com - TrueHoop — ... Jason Quick of The Oregonian: His mood never dwells on his apprehensions. It seems every time they arise, he gathers in his surroundings, be it listening to the June bugs, taking in the scenery at the secluded pond he fishes, or embracing the comfort of family. It seems to ground him, and he becomes the man that is so familiar in Portland: gentle, respectful and humble. 'Things come to you in due time,' Travis Outlaw says late one night. 'If God has it in his will, then that's how it's gonna be.' So he is content to wait another year, perhaps two, ...

Travis Outlaw, the almost Mississippi State Bulldog
Bulldog Maroon & White — ... This year, Outlaw desires to come into his own even more. Jason Quick, of The Oregonian, recently traveled back to Starkville, Mississippi to do an extensive piece on Outlaw. The article discusses Outlaw’s roots, the house he recently built in Starkvegas, and his basketball aspirations. The reading is highly suggested. ...

Travis Outlaw Doesn’t Get It
Dime Magazine — ... path. He’s probably not going to even see the same minutes he did last year (26.7 mpg), let alone get anywhere close to the number of shots that Roy or Aldridge will see. That’s just a pipe dream. I have no problem with a guy being supremely confident in his abilities, but this is a great way to punch his plane ticket out of town. Throw in the fact that he could be a free agent at the end of the season and he is clearly a prime candidate to be traded at the first opportunity. Source: The Oregonian

Travis Outlaw Wants More Shots, Specifically, More Jumpshots
SLAM Online — by Marcel Mutoni Last week, I mentioned how Portland has so much talent and potential on its roster that it might be a problem. While most (myself included) see this as a good problem to have, it might not be long before this changes. Travis Outlaw is looking to break out next season, but he knows that it won’t be easy to shine on the talent-deep Blazers (especially not as a sixth man). From The Oregonian: “I saw Bayless have a great Summer League,” Outlaw says. “And Rudy, ...

On that Outlaw wanting more shots thing
Deceptively Quick — We have all read it by now. In fact, the Travis-saying-he-wants-more-shots issue has been pretty much covered (1, 2). If not for my hyena streak I would probably leave it alone at this point, but I can't resist the possibility of crumbs on the carcass. Yummy carrion. Outlaw will experience a little backlash from some fans over this. But what did he do, really? 1) He used human reasoning ability to deduct that adding offensive perimeter talents Bayless and Fernandez will result in a diminished role for him in the offense. 2) He was concerned ...

Remoteness (Variations): Injury News From The Preseason
2nd Round Reach - NBA and Fantasy Basketball Commentary for the Truly Obsessed — ... that Rudy Fernandez has got the athleticism and range to get some floor time if Nat McMillan is okay starting three players under 6'5", but it seems much more likely that he'll just hand the starting job over to Travis Outlaw. Travis, you might remember, is itching for an increased role on the team and claimed in September that his goal was to average 8 rebounds and 16 points on 15 shots a game in 08-09. I'm not sure about those boards (perhaps he doesn't realize that a Greg Oden will be his teammate this year) but 16 and 6 with a block and nearly a ...

Thoughts on the Money(Basket)Ball Rockets
The Painted Area — ... I think that Travis Outlaw is a promising young player, and, from a Blazers perspective, I don't like the trade rumors I've seen involving him on a talent basis. but I think back to this story from The Oregonian from the summer, with this excerpt, and I understand why he probably needs to go: ...

Travis Outlaw Seeks Intergalactic Compensation
Blazersedge — ... Outlaw's grandiose tweet recalls one of Jason Quick's Greatest Hits, which, amazingly, was written nearly a full year ago.  In that piece, Outlaw talked honestly about his desires to start and get more shots. He was ready for his career to take a step up.  The honesty was refreshing then and it's refreshing, although a little bit foreboding, now. ...
