 TrueHoop interviews Josh Howard
Q: You were a 4 in college, and now you do so many things, even guarding point guards. How has that happened? A: I'm just going hard all the time, trying to get better at all the different phases of the game. Coach Johnson, even before he was the head coach, he has been in charge of my development. The main thing has been to keep the attitude that you are humble and need to improve. [link]

some great quotes in this interview:

    Q:Do you have a certain game-day routine?
A: We have a shootaround and ten or eleven. Then I shower, go home, and eat. Then I watch Court TV. I have to watch Judge Mathis and that for an hour and a half or two hours.

Q: What about Mark Cuban's antics on the sidelines? Dirk Nowitzki has suggested it might not be good for the team. You think it hurts the team?
A: I have no problem with it. But at the end of the day, it does hurt our team.

Q: What did you study in college?
A: Religion. At Wake Forest, they always try to put athletes in sociology and communications because they are not hard. Really, when I looked at it, I thought about what would happen if I got injured and basketball was over for me? I don't like broadcasting. And sociology -- I'm a black man with a single mother. I know all there is to know about that already. I decided to study what I like in life, so I got a degree in religion, and Wake Forest happened to have the best religion program in the country.

... After reading an excellent interview with Howard conducted by True Hoop’s Henry Abbott, we like him that much more. Articulate, thoughtful, and honest about himself and his views of the world throughout, this young man is easy to root for and possesses the kind of heart and hard-working attitude many NBA players sorely lack.

Longform Shoals: Open Letter to Josh Howard

Filed under: Mavericks, NBA Fans, Dallas, Featured Stories, The Word Dear J-How, What up my man! Hope the Big D is treating you well. This time of year, it's only really cold if neighborhood kids put a bb through your window, which is what happened when I was there for Christmas '06. I wanted to politic with you for a minute about the season you're having. I thought you'd arrived last year -- first All-Star appearance, increasingly polished on offense, and getting feared as a defender. But you've managed to take things up another notch, even as your Mavs are in a period of uncertainty. Fans ...

The Dallas Mavericks Should Not Be Ashamed
Published 4/26/2008 by Rob Mahoney at Upside and Motor
Photo from USA Today. Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse have big mouths. That is certainly true. In-game, you can see them yap at opponents and at referees. Out of games, microphones or not, they speak their minds. Call them dumb, call them crazy, call them unprofessional. I am not nor have ever been an Adrian Wojnarowski fan, but he did hit us with a bit of wisdom in his article last night over at Yahoo! Sports: “I was raised on being truthful and honest with myself and my family, so I can say it with no problems and go out there and perform to the best of my abilities (Friday) and not even think about it.” ...

Josh Howard Partying During Playoffs?
Published 5/1/2008 by Larry Brown at Larry Brown Sports
It was only two weeks ago that I wrote about Baron Davis reportedly being out partying the night before the Warriors’ last game of the season — a must-win they lost to Phoenix that eliminated them from the playoffs. And today it disappoints me to write about the report from the Dallas area that Josh Howard was partying in between important games as well. After a loss in Game 4 on Sunday, Howard passed out fliers in the locker room inviting teammates to celebrate his 28th birthday at a Dallas nightclub, a source said. The Mavs were down, 3-1, in the best-of-7 series. Only a few players attended, the ...
