Mavericks Closing in on Deal for Marion
The Dallas Mavericks are close to acquiring forward Shawn Marion from the Toronto Raptors in a sign-and-trade deal after recruiting the Memphis Grizzlies to help complete a three-team transaction, according to ESPN.com.
The trade will also send Jerry Stackhouse to the Grizzlies, with sources saying that a trade call with the league office to formalize the deal is set for Thursday, meaning all sides have agreed in principle.

NBA Lowers Salary Cap to $57.7 Million

The National Basketball Association announced Tuesday that the Salary Cap for the 2009-10 season will be $57.7 million. The tax level for the 2009-10 season has been set at $69.92 million. Any team whose team salary exceeds that figure will pay a $1 tax for each $1 by which it exceeds $69.92 million.
The 2008-09 Salary Cap was $58.68 million and the tax level was $71.15 million. Although league-wide revenue increased 2.5% this past season, the decrease in the Salary Cap and tax level for the 2009-10 season is the result of the formula used to set the Cap and tax under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
It is the first time that the Cap has decreased in the league since the 2002-03 season.

This past spring, former Arizona State and Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller filed a class action lawsuit against the NCAA and EA Sports. In his complaint, Keller identified the class upon which he is suing on behalf of all college football and basketball players who are in EA Sports’ various games. The complaint alleges a handful of different claims, including breach of contract, conspiracy, unjust enrichment and violating the athletes’ right of publicity.
