Two Cubs-Astros games off due to Ike | cubs.com: News
ST. LOUIS -- The Cubs' games Friday and Saturday against the Houston Astros have been postponed to avoid Hurricane Ike, which is churning in the Gulf of Mexico and headed in the direction of Texas. The Cubs were to return to Chicago after Thursday's series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals ...

Cubs and Astros Postpone Two Games
The Cub Reporter (TCR) | A Chicago Cubs Blog — The Cubs will get at least a two game rest after tonight thanks to Hurricane Ike bearing down on the Texas coast. There were thoughts of moving Friday's night game up to a day game and then likely a doubleheader on Sunday. Now it seems like they'll try and get a doubleheader on either Sunday or Monday and one game in on the other day with both teams having a scheduled off day Monday. So barring any more rainouts, it looks like Saturday will be the last Cubs off day of the regular season. I'm sure Lou will tweak his rotation accordingly and it will likely mean another Sean Marshall start.  ...

Postponed games a blessing in disguise for Cubs?
Clubhouse Cancer — Now that at least 2 Cubs/Astros games in Houston this weekend have been postponed due to the approaching Hurricane Ike, the Cubs will have 3 out of 4 days off in the middle of a grueling September stretch during which their relief pitching has been awfully suspect. A couple days of sleeping comfy in your own bed should be very nice, instead of dodging ...

Alfonso Soriano, Kosuke Fukudome, Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez all turned in outstanding plays that proved essential to preserving the Cubs' one-run margin and making a winner of Rich Harden, returning to the rotation after 12 days of rest. The defensive play also masked the fact that both ...

Cubs 3, Cardinals 2; Escape from St. Louis
Cubbie Nation - Notes from the Front Office — Filed:September 11th, 2008 Watching last night's Cubs-Cardinals game -- a 3-2 win by the Cubs to take the series -- I was reminded of John Carpenter's cult classic, Escape from New York. A bruised and battered Snake Plisken running around prison city New York, doing whatever he can to collect his prize -- the President -- before time runs out, and he's left to die on the side of the road. Oh, and all the while, with an oversized black man chasing him; *cough*, Prince Fielder, *cough, cough*. Sounds about like the Cubs in September. Well, the Cubs did their best Snake impression, getting the win in almost Hollywood-like fashion, with six innings of ...
