There’s a good chance both will end up in my top 10 next year, but I don’t have enough data to make that call just yet. That’s the difference between Goldstein and me, of course; he’s way more informed than I am. The Swinging Friar is a new Padres blog on the block. Not after visiting the Great Wall of China on Thursday, as a prelude to their weekend exhibition games against the Dodgers. Reliever Trevor Hoffman tried to explain baseball -- bangqiu, or "stick ball" in Chinese -- to media. The Padres mascot, "The Swinging Friar," also put in an appearance that baffled some tourists, the AP reported. And here's the San Diego Union-Tribune's blog report.
