The second ranked Tar Heels, coming off a three game series with UVa on the road and facing the top ranked University of Miami next, had to play a mid week game against Winthrop, a game that I kept calling a trap game.

After the first game went very well for the Tar Heels, they needed to do just as well in the second match. Behind a great job on the mound by Rob Wooten (4-1) second ranked North Carolina (42-8, 20-5 in the ACC) did just that.

One hit, and the Lady Heels were knocked out of the ACC Softball Tournament. North Carolina (50-10-1) lost to North Carolina State (31-26) by the score of 1-0.

I think that if I had been asked to sum up the game between #9 North Carolina (8-6) and visiting #14 Navy (10-5) in the ACC Men's Lacrosse Tournament, I would have to use the old proverb that says "mistakes cost dearly".

In a game that was shortened by the weather it was the Tar Heels that came out on the short end of the stick. Second ranked North Carolina (42-9, 20-6 in the ACC) took a loss thanks to the hard play of Virginia (34-17, 14-13 in the ACC) and the hard rain from the sky.

The last series of the season did not start the way the Tar Heels would have liked. The second ranked North Carolina (43-10, 20-7 in the ACC) team traveled to Coral Gables, Florida to meet top ranked Miami (43-6, 23-3 in the ACC) and lost the first of three games by the score of 12 to 2.
