We're now up to the third opponent for the Tar Heels, as I do my "UNC Gridiron breakdown: Getting to know...". You can read about my first one, the Rutger's breakdown, and sorry, I didn't breakdown McNeese State. But now I'm going to talk about week three for the Tar Heels, which means #15 in USA Today's first poll Virginia Tech (11-3, 8-1 ACC)...

unc5corners.blogspot.com 8/2/2008 — Yes, by all means North Carolina is not in the Top Ten, it's not in the Top 25, but it has received votes and for me that is a great start for the Tar Heels.
Could Carolina once again see a 1,000 yd rusher?
unc5corners.blogspot.com 8/3/2008 — As I said recently in one of my podcasts (If you are not listening to them, shame on you!) North Carolina has had twenty seven 1,000 yard rushers. The other thing that I did say in that same podcast, is that none have come in over a decade, when Jonathan Linton did it in `97.

unc5corners.blogspot.com 8/3/2008 — I know that it's the pre-season polls, and I know that the only poll that counts is the one at the end of the season, and I know that there can be another 1,000,000 reasons (or more) for not looking at what USA Today has done with their pre-season poll, but on the other hand, I just love doing this stuff, and couldn't resist.

But, even with all the hype there is that disconcerting feeling because the young man who led the team last year, T.J. Yates, had shoulder surgery that kept him out of spring ball.
