For the second year in a row, the Bears will be without a Pro Bowl linebacker for the start of their voluntary off-season program, in part because of an unresolved contract situation. Brian Urlacher told the Tribune on Sunday he plans to skip the first day of workouts, slated to begin Monday, and left open the strong possibility that he will bypass the Bears' entire voluntary off-season ... URLACHER TO BOYCOTT VOLUNTARY WORKOUTS
Published 4/7/2008 by Mike Florio at ProFootballTalk.com
It figures. Now that Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has a long-term deal that presumably has resulted in the removal of the stick from his sphincter, said stick apparently has been shifted to another linebacker on the team. Middle linebacker Brian Urlacher plans to miss the first day of voluntary workouts , according to the Chicago Tribune.   Urlacher told the Trib of his plans, which arise in part from an “unresolved contract situation,” as the newspaper describes it. Urlacher is signed through 2011, and he is due to earn a base salary of $3.95 million in 2008.  But ...

... won't be in attendance and will remain in Arizona while his teammates gather at Halas Hall to begin preparations for 2008. It isn't the myriad health problems of 2007 or lingering problems from neck surgery that's sidelining him, rather a dispute over his contract. ...

Urlacher To Skip Voluntary Workouts
Published 4/7/2008 by WCG <info@windycitygridiron.com> at Windy City Gridiron: Front Page Posts
Seriously, can we just not catch a break?  It took two seasons to finally get Lance Briggs under contract and now we have to shift to Brian Urlacher all the while still trying to get Tommie Harris signed to a big contract. Urlacher is planning to skip voluntary workouts due to what is being labeled as "unresolved contract situation". Obviously I wouldn't expect this deal to get as messy or loud as the Briggs ordeal, but it is still something they have to deal with. Early thoughts are that Urlacher is looking for an extension. It is not a big deal as of yet. ...

Brian Urlacher Voluntarily Decides To Not Go To Voluntary Workouts

... for missing them, but for the most part you're expected to show up. A few years ago Thomas Jones and Lance Briggs skipped the workouts, and Lovie Smith took away their starting jobs. Last season it was Briggs again who skipped the workouts as a protest to his being franchised by the team, and wanting a long-term contract. Well, this year Lance finally has his money, and he's showing up to the workouts. Still, there's another Bears linebacker who's not going to be able to make it. Brian Urlacher . Brian Urlacher told the Tribune on Sunday he plans to skip the first day of ...

Urlacher for Ocho Cinco, Anyone?
Published 4/9/2008 by Larry Brown at Larry Brown Sports
... swap problems and trade Brian Urlacher for Chad Johnson. Honestly, upon further review, Urlacher for Ocho Cinco could be the apotheosis of a win-win trade. There are several reasons why this trade would be only too perfect for each team. For starters, they’re each Pro Bowl players. There is no question that you are getting one of the Top Five players at their positions with these two guys. They’re each currently unhappy with their status on their teams. Urlacher is skipping workouts and wants a new deal. ...
