Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek didn't quite measure up to his illustrious predecessor in charge of South Korea. On Wednesday night, Verbeek retried Guus Hiddink's shoes on for size as Australia mounted their maiden World Cup qualifying campaign through the AFC. If Verbeek's 3-0 victory over Qatar wasn't quite enough to prove the bulk of his doubters wrong, it must have gone mighty close. President of US Soccer Sunil Gulati announced that the US men will face a top 5 FIFA ranked team June 8th in the Northwest. Although he did not hint at the team, I think I have a good guess. The current top 5 are Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Spain and Germany. Since all three European teams qualified for Euro 2008, which starts on 7 June, it is pretty safe to rule them out, which leaves the two ...EPL Daily 2.6.08: Friedel inks new deal, FC Dallas trialist, WCQ/International Friendlies

TEHRAN, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Iran got their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign off to a disappointing start when they were held to a 0-0 draw by part-timers Syria on Wednesday. The long road that should take the US men to South Africa begins June 15 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, when the team hosts either Barbados or Dominica in the first leg of their series.
