Lidge’s contract runs about the same length as some of the other core players: Chase Utley is signed through 2013, Jimmy Rollins is signed through 2011, Ryan Howard is under control (arbitration) until after the 2011 season, and Cole Hamels is under control until after the 2012 season. The All-Star teams were announced today, and two Phillies are going to New York: Chase Utley and the man with the new contract, Brad Lidge. Utley was voted in by the fans to start at second base and Lidge was selected by NL manager Clint Hurdle. Both are very deserving all stars who are at the top of their respective positions.
