In light of Justin Verlander’s struggles I am going to skip my normal opening paragraph designed to introduce the topic at hand and just plain pose the question - What is going on with the Tigers ace? What’s wrong with Verlander? by Bryan Tsao May 13, 2008 Eric Seidman takes a look over at FanGraphs . Tigers fans might not be happy. Seidman identifies the main culprit as being a decrease in strikeout rate and an increase in walk rate, and attributes it to a decrease in average fastball velocity from 94.8 mph to 93.0 mph. While it seems as good an explanation as any, I'm not convinced that 2 mph would make such a big difference, though I definitely don't know a lot about such things.
