House That Ruth Built Wont Be Purchased By Yankees
Published 3/25/2008 by Maury Brown at The Biz of Baseball :: Business of Sports Network
With the current Yankee Stadium about to become history, those that want a piece of that stories history will surely come running. How much is a dugout seat worth? What about a box seat that you’ve sat in for years? Hey, even the urinals in Busch Stadium II were sold. Stadium memorabilia is hot item these days. And while the public is dumping truckloads of cash into the new Yankee Stadium (see renderings of the new design), the Yankees have said that they will not be purchasing the current Yankee Stadium in order to gain the revenues from selling off the pieces. As reported by Ticker: “We have been in talks with city officials to determine the best way for ...

With one week until Opening Day, the current tally is 400,000 tickets ahead of the Yankees' total on the same date last year. "Even with historic advance sales, tickets remain available for most games," said Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost. "I encourage fans to join us at Yankee Stadium throughout 2008 to celebrate the 84th and final season of Baseball at The House That Ruth Built." Good Morning: Welcome to the 2008 MLB Season
Published 3/25/2008 by Maury Brown at The Biz of Baseball :: Business of Sports Network
Those on the West Coast will be sleeping. Some on the East Coast, as well. But, Tuesday marks the beginning of the 2008 Major League Baseball season in a game that should simply be called "Dice-K Returns". The season opener in Japan will see Japanese national treasure Daisuke Matsuzaka return as the Red Sox starting pitcher against Joe Blanton of the A's. Who has home field advantage? Call this game "Fenway Park East" as Matsuzaka is the main attraction playing at home in Japan for the first time since signing his six-year, $52 million deal (plus, $51.1 million posting fee) with the Red Sox. The game will air on ESPN2 at ...
Japan Opener: DirecTV Subs See ESPN2, NESN Outage
Published 3/25/2008 by Maury Brown at The Biz of Baseball :: Business of Sports Network
DirecTV subscribers that got up early (6am ET, 3am PT) to watch the season opener between the Red Sox and Athletics from Japan found ESPN2 and NESN dead in the water -- an outage of both channels on the Satcaster. Fans on message boards such as Sons of Sam Horn and Athletics Nation bemoaned getting up early, only to find the channel outage. Emails and phone calls to DirecTV were not taken at game time, and more than one reporter is saying that no word yet has come back to them from DirecTV about the matter. If you have heard from DirecTV on this outage, please contact me. More on this story as it becomes ...
Blinded by Science: DirecTV Goes Black on Season Opener
Published 3/25/2008 by maury at Maury Brown's Biz of Sports
Before we get started, yes, I’m a DirecTV subscriber, and yes, I’ve been very happy with my service. Also, I have a nice clean view of the southern sky, which helps with the quality, and even during the worst rain storm the Pacific Northwest can muster, I’ve never had the signal go out on me.
So, it’s a good thing I’m writing this story today after deciding not to stay up or get up early to watch this year’s season opener between the Red Sox and Athletics from Japan. While Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts from coast-to-coast were serving up fanatical baseball fans that decided that getting up at 6am ET or 3am PT to watch the game, I decided that some shut-eye was more in order.
If that makes ...

A Splitter on Clemens? Rep. Davis Discredits McNamee
Published 3/26/2008 by Maury Brown at The Biz of Baseball :: Business of Sports Network
The lines were easily noticeable when Roger Clemens and Brian McNamee testified before Congress in mid-February: Republicans supported Clemens, while Democrats sided with McNamee. Now, the partisan nature of the Clemens v. McNamee testimony has moved further along. The top Republican on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Rep. Tom Davis, issued a 109-page report that challenges the credibility of Clemens’ former trainer, Brian McNamee, who claims to have injected Clemens with performance-enhancing drugs, and was highlighted within the Mitchell Report. As reported by The AP : "Did ...
